I have a hp 8460p with a Bios Password. biosconfigutility.exe cannot delete the password. I just need to know if this is something that SSM was supposed to be able of doing or replacing the chip is the only way on Elitebook laptops?

Resetting the BIOS password used to be a simple procedure. With business class notebooks such as yours and newer consumer modules  resetting the BIOS password can no longer be done by removing the CMOS (RTC) battery (if accessible).

The HP System Software Manager (SSM) is a utility that automatically detects and updates BIOS, device drivers, and management agent versions on your networked PCs. IHP SSM was never meant to have the ability to be able to override the BIOS password. You may have discovered that even updating the BIOS in its current state does nothing to change your inability to access the BIOS.

Contact HP to resolve this issue.

Thanks for the replies.

I have already bought the chip.

I have one question though: The laptop is still under warranty but I am not the original owner. Will hp still provide support to reset the password. Because I hear they can using the UUID of the laptop.

The link I posted is for pre-programed chips.

They come clean with no password.

The one you ordered was it pre-programed???

Yes, it is preprogrammed. I ordered it a week ago on ebay and coming from Germany.
