Spectre x360 13-w000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Anyone having trouble with the Windows Hello authentication in their Kaby Lake Spectre x360 (late 2016 edition)? I'm having the following issues:

1. Windows can't turn on the Hello IR camera when waking up from sleep in 99% cases.

2. Sometimes during normal "cold start", Hello camera fails to recognize.

I have the Win 10 Anniversary Edition (Build 1607) installed through normal Windows Update and have all the latest drivers installed. Tried removing the camera drivers and reinstalling, does not help. Also tried to change the Sleep Policy for USB devices (following advice from other Windows forum) - doesn't help either.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand there are certain issues with Windows Hello,

No worries as I'd love to help, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

Did the issue occur after you updated to the windows 10 Anniversary upgrade?

While you reply, here's what you need to know:

Cause:

The following Group Policy setting does not currently allow log-on or sign-on through facial recognition:

Computer Configuration / Local Policies / Security Options

Interactive logon: Do not display last user name: Enable

By default, this Group Policy setting is disabled.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, change this setting to Disabled, or wait for the anniversary update of Windows 10.

Here's an article from Microsoft with the details you need: Click here

Alternatively, you could perform a system restore and create a new user profile/account and check if it works on the new user profile,

As this should resolve any profile corruption issues.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm encountering the issue after getting the anniversary update. The occurance of this problem is quite inconsistant.

I can't seem to access the Group Policy Editor to check whether the settings is enabled or disabled.

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I recommend you create a new user profile with administrative privileges and then change the group policy as mentioned in the article,

It's possible the current user account profile has issues or it's simply corrupted during the update.
