Hello, I'll be very gratefull if you can help me with this.

I had some splashing issue with my cup of coffee and my laptop the other day, and then I had my Keyboard working in any way possible except for the right one. Like anyone would expect I bought another keyboard for my laptop. Now the thing is that even with the new keyboard, when I press the space bar, my computer writes "c". The most stunning part is that I also tried with an external bluetooth keyboard and the result was exactly the same.

I've tried to resolve this problem, by changing the language of the keyboard in the control panel several times, but the space bar it is still writing "c" in any language.

I also have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers of my laptop without good results.

I'm using Windows 7 64bits by the way.

Thanks.

Hi Kadenian,

I am sorry to hear about this issue.

Let's do a verification here. Let's get out of the Windows enviornment and check whether the Spacebar key is working fine or not. For doing this, when you turn ON the Notebook, please keep tapping the F11 key that will take you to the Recovery Manager Screen. Once you are there, press the "Alt" and "D" keys together that will open up a Command Prompt there. Try using the Space Bar key over here and see whether the issue persists.

If the issue is not happening here, it means that this is a software issue. I am just asking you to do this just for a confirmation. If the issue is happening with an external keyboard, then it definitely points towards a software issue.

If this is the case, please try performing a Microsoft System Restore to a date before the liquid spillage incident. Please go to the section that says "Restoring Windows to a previous point" in the following document to know how to do it.

Hello Siby.

Thank you for your response, I tried your idea but when I pressed F11 when turning on my computer, nothing happened, I made some research about it and I found that my computer doesn't have the HP_Recovery partition.

By the way, the only two restore points that I have, were made after I had my little accident.

Well, this is getting weird and weir, I just installed Windows XP on my computer, using Microsoft Virtual PC  and guess what?

Even using Windows XP keyboard drivers, my problem persists, the space bar it is still writing  "c" with my laptop's Keyboard and with the USB Keyboard.

Do you think that there are some wrong with my motherboard? I hope not.

Well I don't have more ideas, I'll wait if one of you have one advice to give me. Thank you.

Hi Kadenian,

You are very welcome. Oh, I see. I am sorry that you have lost the HP_Recovery partition. Okay, so we don’t have Restore points as well. Please don’t worry. Let me see what best I can do here.

No, we still cannot suspect a hardware failure yet. This still appears to be some software glitch as you are facing the exact same issue even when an external USB keyboard is used.

I need you to do one more verification before we proceed further. Can you please open the On-Screen Keyboard on your Notebook and see whether the issue is happening there or not. For opening the On-Screen Keyboard, click on Windows Start button and type in “On-Screen Keyboard” and click on the option that says the same. Please check and tell me whether the Space Bar key types “C” with the On-Screen Keyboard as well.

I am waiting to hear back from you.

Hi Kadenian,

I see. Okay, this case definitely looks very unique. Space bar key is typing incorrectly with both internal and external keyboards but not with an on-screen keyboard. Please allow me some time to do a research on this issue and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Kadenian,

Just one more confirmation to make.

Please click on the Windows Start button and then type "CMD". When you get the option that says "CMD", right click and select "Run as Administrator". A black coloured Command Prompt Window will open up. Please check and tell me whether the key has a problem here or not.

I see. Interesting. Please allow me some time to research on this issue. I will try getting back to you as soon as I can.

I just wanted to know something in advance. I know that nobody would normally be happy performing an HP Recovery on their Notebooks to take it back to its default factory condition as it involves loss of data. But this is the best and the final way for us to isolate and find out whether this issue is a software or a hardware issue. May I know whether you will be willing to do this? You can back up your data and we can order Recovery Discs from HP as you don't have the HP_Recovery partition any more on your Notebook. I can assist you with the steps for running a Recovery and we can confirm whether this is a hardware issue.

I am waiting to hear back from you.
