I have had am HP Pavilion 17-e049wm Notebook PC  Product #E0J75UAR for about 4 weeks now.  I purchased it refurbished.  About a week ago I started having this problem.  The keys 3, e, d, and c do not work when i first start up the computer though all the other keys work.  Nothing happens when they are pressed.   Sometimes I will restart the computer and they will function again, other times they won't, but often will begin to function if I just let the computer set for five minutes or so after startup.

The computer is immaculately clean.  I've only used it a dozen times or so.  Nothing was spilled into the keyboard.

This sounds like software to me, but what?

I am running Windows 8.1 and no programs are running on startup except for a start button program, but the problem started weeks after installing that.

Any ideas?

Fwiw I called hp. They thought they ruled out hardware and had me do a total system restore. Problem persists... The things you own end up owning you they say.... I guess that is doubly true if you own an hp notebook. Entire day shot.... One day closer to death. Thanks Obama.
