HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14

I recently lost my laptop charger and ended up ordering a 90w charger. Will this damage my computer when it calls for a 65w charger? I have read mixed reviews and I don't want to burn up my computer.

Hi!, @jakobie47:

Welcome, to Forum !.

Manual, of your notebook ...

HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and. HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14. Maintenance and Service Guide ...

In this site, the AC adapter:

●65 W nPFC - 693715-001 - 19.5VDC - 3.33A

IMHO, what you use the 90W, AC adapter, can it is probable that, you can shorten, the useful life, of the battery. For something, the engineers of HP, for your equipment, determined of 65W.

However, is your decision.

Kind Regards !.

Hi,

Nearly all my private laptops and my work laptops use 2 or 3 different chargers.

1. Lower wattage chargers for travelling because they are physically smaller and lighter,

2. Normal chargers for siiting on our desks without other devices,

3. Higher wattage chargers when our machines are docked and connectto many devices.

The old school said higher wattage chargers may cause damages for the batteries but now all batteries and chargers are much smarter. They know their work.

Regards.

A 90W charger will not damage your laptop.  A great anology is your standard electrical circut at home...

In the US circuts are 110Volts and have a 15Amp breaker that gives a 1,650W circut.

You can attach a 60W bulb to that circut, no problem.

You can attach a 45W bulb to that circut, still no problem.

1,650W is the MAX power that the curcut can deliver, no harm if plug less then that in to the circut.

Same with your power supply, no issue if you plug your laptop in to a power supply that can deliver MORE then what your laptop requires.

You run into a problem, if overload the curcut by drawing too much current.  Plug in a couple of hair dryers and a heater, you will trip the breaker.

So, if you use a 65W power supply, and attach too many accessories (USB Hubs/HDDs, etc) to your laptop, you could damage the power supply, but most likely it has protection where it would just shutoff; like the circut breaker.

Hi!, @jakobie47:

The original part, for the your and many notebook's, from ... http://partsurfermobile.hp.com/#UsedParts

ever, is ...

  • Part No: 693715-001
  • Description: AC adapter (65 watt) - Input voltage 110-240VAC, 50-60Hz, 19.5V, 3.33A DC output, RC/V, non-smart pin, with power factor correction (PFC) - (For use in all countries and regions)
  • Rohs: COMPLY_2.05

AC adapters, with higher power ratings, also give, off more heat, than adapters, with lower power ratings. If excess heat, is a consideration, an adapter, with a higher power rating, may not be suitable, for the application.

In order to purchase, a power adapter, that is compatible, with a notebook's, shoppers should, be familiar, the tech specs about their notebook's. Power ratings, of notebook's chargers, are directly related, to input voltage. Buyers must find, an adapter, that has a compatible, output voltage and power level. Although basic laptops only require 65W of input power, shoppers should consult the manual, prior to buying. Using, a 90W adapter, could overheat and fry, the motherboard.

Kind Regards !.
