So I've had my HP laptop since December and frequently use it for school work. Recently I noticed one of the screws fell out of the bottom of the laptop. The screw that fall out was the one directly below the right screen hinge and I have noticed the screen is not as sturdy recently.

I have tried to screw the screw back in but it just keeps spinning. I have tried the screw with other holes and the other screws with the faulty hole and all the screws are functioning it's just that one hole which I believe to be broken. Any advice on how to repair this would be highly appreciated as I don't want the screen falling off.

Look at this Manual:

Is this your laptop? Is the screw we are talking about the one in the upper left corner on pages 55 and 56? That one does go into the hinge. See the hinge on page 59 and 63.

This is the part for the display hinges:

$25 on eBay:

However, if you have only had this laptop since December it is likely under warranty. I am going to bump this up to HP and see if maybe someone will contact you through PM on this Forum. No guaranties. I am going to emphasize that this is a chance to repair this cheaply and easily now before it does more damage.

Please give us the model number. The only way to repair that is probably to install a new hinge. If the screw has stripped you will never get that screw to hold in the hole. You have to replace the metal support piece which is likely the screen hinge. The problem is only going to get worse and fast. I need the model to be sure it is the hinge that supplies the metal for the screw mounting. It might be the whole bottom "tub" of the laptop. Depends on exact model.

I'm not sure the exact model I think it's from the envy range.

Thanks for the help guys. I am gonna take it back to the store on the weekend and see what they can do as like you pointed out, it should still be under warranty. If they won't do it for free then I'll do it myself as that looks like the right part you've listed.

Once again, thanks for all the help.
