It worked. I opened the back cover removed the memory chips and the mini battery. The one we use for our watches. I swapped the memory cards the top one now the bottom one. Put it back together and started the computer without the battery and it started back up.. Thanks

Hi,
I searched and could not find a solution so thought I would post the solution that worked for me.
I had the same problem. Caps lock blinking once and then 4 sec off, with the amber F12 light on permanently. It pointed to a CPU problem so I bought a new one. After I installed it, the problem did not go away.
I fiddled around with some of the other proposals, but nothing worked. This is what fixed it for me:
I removed the power and battery. Then removed the RAM modules. HDD still installed. I plugged only the power in.
When you press the power button the Laptop does not come one the first time, so I had to press the Power button a second or third time. The laptop switched on, but was now flashing the caps lock 3 times and then 4 sec off, but now the F11 and F12 amber lights were on. I removed power and installed the RAM modules again. Then I plugged the power back in (battery still out) and tried to switch it on. Once again I had to press the power button a second or third time to get the laptop to boot. Magically the screen came on saying that the BIOS was corrupted and that it would reload the default values. I left it for a few seconds in amazement and the laptop rebooted by itself. It was working now.
My guess is going to be that it was either the BIOS that got corrupted or the RAM modules was not seeted properly. Either way, the above fixed it for me. I did not try to remove the BIOS battery to reset BIOS beforehand so maybe that will work as well. I hope it helps someone that was as frustrated as I was.

good afternoon,
i am trying to help my stepdaughter out. She bought an HP Laptop and she brought it to me to fix. most times i can help people out in that area But not this one... the Network light blinks orange, while the cap lock key blinks 5 times slowly and then the network key light goes off and the cap lock key will blink 3 times quickly. Then it all goes off and within a few seconds it starts all over again. I followed the steps for actions needed for the 5 blinks. I have taken the memory card out and put it back in along with detaching the battery and the power plug and any other devices attached
But i have to say i have never opened the back of a computer to reset the memory card and find a big open space next to where the memory card goes.... I'm assuming that is where her hard drive SHOULD be is that correct? And how could this have happened? And now what? any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

My computer must be about 5yrs old. Suddenly I, too, had this problem of pressing power button on & not much happening. The charge button started to flash orange/blue. Took out battery & plugged mains back in. Switched on and both lock buttons flash. I left it - fan came on then machine switched itself off. On rebooting, it started up as normal but still without battery in! What is going on?
