I used my laptop this morning. Left the house and when I returned about 6 hours later it would not power on. It does not appear to be charging either (no lights at all). I've never had this problem before. I use this laptop for church administration and school work. I really need it to turn on. I tried to charge it but I don't think it's even charging. Could it be the charger? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Based on what you have told me so far, there is no a means of checking the systemboard if you are unable to boot the notebook and go to the PC Hardware Diagnostics or boot to a Diagnostics flashdrive.
That is why I asked the question about warranty.
This is where a factory or extended warranty comes in handy. Warranty service beats shotgun troubleshooting on your own.
Replacing the battery to try it and then replacing the systemboard are best left to service centers, if in warranty . The latter is quite a bit more expensive.

Yes. It could be the charger ( it is actually called the power adapter).
Remove the battery and connect the power adapter.
If the power\charge led does not light up, the charger may have failed.
Wiggle the power connector gently while watching the led. If it flickers ,then the issue is probably the DC connector header on the laptopitself and not the power adapter.

Yes. You will likely get a better price if you buy one from an online vendor than BestBuy or Walmart.
Just make sure that the output in DC volts and Amps of the one you purchase are the same as on the original power adapter.
There is a sticker on the power adapter that gives those details. I would provide them but you never did post the complete product name or product number of your notebook.
- see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.

Very sad...bought the hp 90w smart actually adapter. My laptop model # is 15-n061nr. It says it compatible but it still will not charge. No light or anything just like the original power adapter. What do I do now? Could it be the battery?

Yes.
It could be the battery.
What happens if you gently wiggle the power adapter plug at the place where it plugs in on the notebook?
Does the led flicker?
Unfortunately, it could also be the charging and power distribution circuit on the notebook's systemboard. That would mean systemboard replacement.
Is the notebook still iwithin the warranty period? The free factory warranty is for one year.
Check your warranty status Here.
