When I went to plug in my charger this morning, I noticed that the power cord no longer fits into the charging port. My brother has a laptop of the same model, so I tried his cord in my laptop. Sometimes it charges, but other times, it doesn't Then, I tried my power cord in his laptop, and again, it did not fit. That leads me to believe that the cord needs to be replaced, but that there is also something wrong with the charging port on my laptop.

Yes I know exactly what you mean and you have broken the plastic piece inside. Stop trying to stick stuff in there as those two exposed prongs can be crossed, shorting out the laptop and causing even more damage. The AC jack module needs to be replaced which is only a modestly difficult and expensive fix, but if you fry the motherboard you might as well buy a new laptop. Post back if you need more help.
