It sounds as if there is a problem with the TV\Monitor. I note that you have not specified what other inputs the device has. That would help. You call it a monitor. Most of the rest of us are using LCD displays. It is only 20 inch per your description. I wouldn't use it if it wouldn't accept a video signal with a resolution higher than 1024 x 768.

Does that mean without connecting the other end of the cable to an HDTV?
If so, try a different cable.
If connecting the HDMI cable between a notebook and an HDTV, try connecting it to a different TV.

I've tried different cables, laptops, tv's, etc... It's the strangest thing!!
I created a new post with detailed info on my trial and errors...

Sorry about that, I didn't know this was such a tight system. Just trying to get a solution.
I tried a DVI connection and it worked. HDMI thing doesn't make any sense, but at least it was able to be resolved.
Thanks for the info - I'll keep it in mind if I have to post a question again...
