Hi,

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.

Post back with the details of any error messages.

Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead.

Regards,

David PK,Thanks very much for your quick response.

I used the tests from the set up to check the memory and hard drive and both passed.

Additionally I  used Memtest86 to check the memory and that pased.

I used DLG to check the hard disk and that passed.

Itook out the battery and pressed the pressdown the power button for 20 secs, still nothng changed.

I did a system recovery - system still restarts.

Thanks

Hi,

Try the following.

If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Repair CD.  Download the relevant ISO from the links below - if you're not sure, your notebook is listed as coming with a 64bit installation..

Windows 7 32bit

Windows 7 64bit

You should use an application such as ImgBurn ( Note: you may want to de-select the additional software options during the installation of ImgBurn ) to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here

When created, tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook launch the Start-up Menu and then insert the Rescue CD.  Select Boot options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.

Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and in the following window, make a note of the letter assigned to your windows installation - it will probably be D - then click Next.

Now select the Command Prompt option and enter the following command, then hit enter ( include spaces and change d if the letter assigned to your Windows installation is different ).

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows

When the scan has completed, make a note of the result.

Restart the notebook and see if there's any change.

If you still get the reboot issue, it may also be worth booting into Safe Mode, delete the current graphics driver and then restart.

Ok DavidPk! I did all the stuff you suggested and here are the outcomes.

I downloaded the iso file for the Windows Repair Disk, downloaded Imgburn, burned the Repair Disk and used it. When the dust settled the result was no integrity problems. When I restarted the laptop I got the same restarting problem. There was no difference in the operation of the laptop.

Then I uninstalled the graphics drivers and restarted the system. Here too the result was the same - a restart - as usual.

Yet I am able to boot in safe mode.

Thanks again for the assistance

Is it then that there is no hope for the G60 552NR laptop?

It still restarts on  or about reaching the boot up screen before the icons are loaded.

It boots up and runs in safe mode but with limited operations (as expected)

The touch screen/mouse button no longer works.

Help.
