@BrainWorms,

Well your BIOS is current, I take it that they had you uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the sound card. Did chat support have you completely refresh the computer. In other words wipe the computer off all data and reinstall it back to its original state.

no nothing like that. they jus gave up an want me to send it in saying it must be a hardware issue

BrainWorms,

A refresh would be the last step but it is awkward to have 2 computers having the same issue and they were purchased at the same time. How long have you had them?

Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

Thanks

@BrainWorms,

Ouch! I hate to see you have had so many issues since April. I would recommend backing up your data and running a refresh on the system. That normally is the last step when it comes to troublsthooint to make sure the issue is indeed hardware related.

@BrianWorms,

A refresh is just a last ditch effort, honestly its 50/50 that it will fix it. You won’t know until you try, if you are willing to try anyway.  Here is a document that will show you how to reset the computer, again this is totally up to you, you can always just wait and have it sent it.

Same extreme audio and video glitch problem here on a Pavilion 15 b-002sg with active warranty, bought in Germany. (It's NOT AC power cord related as I wrote elsewhere; just disappears for a few minutes occasionally). The glitch/ buzzing/ stuttering makes the computer unusable for audio applications - which is what I bought it for as a semi-professional and a student.

Everything was fine until a month or so after purchase. The glitches started occurding after I installed five updates (among them to the BIOS and the Synaptics TouchPad driver) just as an - wait for it- HP tech had instructed me to do over the phone - supposedly in order to solve a problem with the TouchPad.

(Full driver list installed on June 13th, for your interest: sp59796.exe, 60448, 60878, 61023, 62072. For a sixth, read on...)

Half an hour after I had done these as instructed, the tech wrote me that he had erred and that the solution to my problem was in fact just an advanced setting (called "Palm Check" in the Synaptics driver's menu) which I needed to uncheck (because as long as this is active, using the TouchPad OR JUST AS WELL A MOUSE is NOT possible while pressing any key! WHAT THE ...!! No sense at all in this with a MOUSE!).

So now I am a with an audio system apparently destroyed by a HP tech's instructions which were not necessary at all in the first place, and to top it all off, that Synaptics driver ALSO has several huge bugs - first, it does not store my settings after Windows shutdown or restart, and second, the menu or dialog (which due to its weird, confusing graphical structure defies either term) takes several MINUTES and ultra-weird stuff like starting two instances of it (!!!) to respond to any checkbox changes.... WHAT THE .... ².

I have phoned the German customer service three times about it, installed another driver "sp59802.exe" which made the audio EVEN WORSE (now the OUTPUT volume strongly fluctuates in response to INTERNAL volume, i.e. for audio guys: sounds like a dynamics compressor/ limiter algorithm with a long release trail, plus some bass boost), and if I'm observing correctly, the computing power for this compression leads to even more glitch and stutter (but even if not, it's extremely annoying and absolurely prohibitive for any and all applications in studying and profession! Please consider this very seriously, HP...!).

I have been searching for a setting to turn this off, but it doesn't seem to be a more option, but fixed.

I have been searchign for driver updates, but after I installed HP's hardware recognition/ profiling add-on, the site's button to check for updates did not do anything. It's dead!

In short, my laptop was "disimproved" twice by HP techs and is now hardly usable, both for music creation or for very simple audio or video file playback. Which in these days even pertains to a good part of the usual internet browsing.

After the last phone call I was sent a system recovery USB stick (after they said several times they'd send me a CD... Another puzzlement)...

...but now that I'm reading that even this only provides a 50/50 chance, I guess I'll try to resell this unit before spending another day (=$$) on a problem that *HP* should take care of properly. If there's any news or hints I haven't read yet, please come forth and help me! Alternatively, I feel HP should exchange my laptop for an entirely new one, and if that one has the same problem, a different *model* without the problem (if there are any - I have read several threads on it, models with "beats" audio or without).

If no solution/ if I will resell: then no HP anymore for me. Sorry to say this is the worst purchase I have made in 30 years - whereas it COULD be so good.
