My sentiments exactly.  My laptop does the same thing with the hinge.  The screen on the laptop is way too heavy for the cheap screw and nut that holds it to the bottom.  I contacted HP as well and since I am out of warranty they will not replace it.  They are plagued with this hinge issue.  We can read it all over the internet and on their forum.  You would think they would recall the laptops but they choose not to.  They rather lose a customer than repair.  I purchased 2 HP laptops on the same day.  One for me and one for my son.  I now have to go out and purchase a laptop for my husband due to his 7 year old Toshiba being stolen.  His Toshiba never broke down or gave him any problems.  And let me tell you he was very rough with his laptop.  I will definitely purchase the Toshiba over the HP.  These are the last 2 HP laptops that I will ever buy.  What I am going to do is post my frustrations and concerns with the BBB.  They need to know that HP has a hinge problem with their laptops.  Good Luck.  It is a pretty expensive job to get fixed.  If you do send it for repairs make sure you tell them to check out the other hinge and add some reinforcement to it.  Don't bother with the HP modifier who will tell you that he referred your concerns.  Nothing comes of it.
