I just recently purchased an HP Pavilion x360. It was working fine until HP did an update and now everytime I close the lid, the computer shuts down and has to restart when I open it. I've checked all of the power settings, including the one that allows you to specify what it should do when I close the lid but having found nothing that helps. Any suggestions?

I understand that before you did a HP update you were able to close the lid and reopen without Windows restarting, but no longer.
You have checked the power management setting and the option for what happens when you close the lid, but no change.
I suggest you do a scan for corrupted files. This process will also try to repair any corrupted files it locates.
Go to the command prompt and right click on it and run as administrator
Type sfc /scannow and press enter
Wait for this to complete and restart your notebook.
Windows 8 has a built in troubleshooter you could also try.
Press the Windows key + C to open charms
Type troubleshoot performance and press enter.
Follow the on screen prompts.
If that did not help. you can do a restore back to before you installed the update.
You also have the optiion to do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 😎. To be on the safe side I would backup your personal data first, to ensure no personal data is lost.
You could also do a recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 😎.
You will receive a prompt to backup your personal files to prevent data loss, if you have not done one recently, I suggetst you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 😎
With the notebook being a fairly recent purchase, you could also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely log onto your system to aid with locating and resolving issues.

I understand you have the same issue.
Would you please refer to my previous post. ( 2nd one down on the page).
If you are not running Windows 8, please reply back with your exact model of HP notebook and the Operating System you are running. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Sparkles1,
So I connacted HP who walked me through a hardrive test and then rebooted the system but nothing changed. I then took it back to Best Buy to exchange it for a new laptop, same model. After it went through an HP update, it started doing the same thing which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the update. It seems that other people are experiencing the same thing after receiving the update. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

Hi rmf21982,
I understand that you called HP and they did not resolve the issue. You took it back to Best Buy and exhchanged it.
The HP update came through and now the issue is on the replacement.
This is what I think maybe happening. When you get your notebook, you set it up to perform that way you want when you close the lid. The updates comes through and assumes that the settings are set to the defaults and does the installation. This is causing corruption in the power schemes, so when you try to change them back it does not have any effect.
Would you try this step.
Go to the command prompt and right click and run as administrator.
Type powercfg /resetdefaultschemes and press enter.
Wait for it to complete and restart your computer
This will reset it.
Now make the changes so that closing the lid does as you want it to.
Please let me know if this has helped.

Thanks. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I find that when it goes into hibernation, it comes out of that just fine. It's only in sleep mode that it does this. Even when I manually put it into sleep mode by selecting it from the Window's power button it still restarts when I wake it up so there's clearly something wrong with sleep mode.

Hi rmf21982,
I regret that has not alleviated the issue for you.
Please go to device manager and check the properties of the devices. Any that are set to allow this device to be turned off to save power and uncheck them.
Please let me know if this helped.
