I have been trying to run some software programs on my wife's laptop and they run but (very) slow. The programs I have been trying to run are GoPro Quick, Kinemaster and Divinci Resolve. Divinci I don't think will ever run right on this laptop but the other two run ok but quite slow. I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the hardware to help with this problem and what upgrades would best help. My other option would be to buy a better laptop but if I can get a little better performance out of this one I would rather spend a couple hundred bucks on an upgrade than several hundred on a new laptop.

If anybody has any suggestions I would apreciate any input.
