Hi, my computer froze and so I did a hard reset. This then started the ho repair tool on start up. I have the whole toggle circling round but then a blank screen.
Ive tried to boot from my usb, boot in safe mode and do a system recovery and all the screens start then go blank. I've also removed the battery as this causes a blank screen on my husbands. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Hi,
Shut down the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory.
Post back with the results, including any error code that may be generated.
Can you also post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of your HP 15 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.

Hi,
The 24 character error code is a failure of the Hard Drive quick test and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the issues you describe.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the UK, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.
Regards,
DP-K

Hi,
You're welcome
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, you have a couple of choices regarding the installation of the operating system on the new HDD.
1. Reinstall Windows 8.1 from your Recovery Media - a guide on this is here - and then upgrade to Windows 10 again. If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below ( I've assumed from the Model No. that you live in the UK ).
2. As long as this was previously installation of Windows 10 was activated, you can just perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.
http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/
Any additional drivers/software you may require can be downloaded from your notebooks Product Page.
Regards,
DP-K
