HP Pavilion x360 - 11m-ap0013dx

I just purchased a HP USB-C G5 Dock and hooked it to my HP Pavilion x360. It can't detect my external monitors (Qty 2). If I hook one monitor directly to the laptop, it will detect and extend the display, but nothing when I go through the docking station.

Short answer is your machine is NOT compatible with the HP USB-C G5 dock. It ONLY has 1 hopeless  USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter (some hubs may have builtin chip to support this)

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only-total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

It's frustrating when a new docking station doesn't work as expected, but don't worry! Let's troubleshoot the issue with your HP USB-C G5 Dock and HP Pavilion x360 not detecting your external monitors. Here are some steps to try:

1. Basic checks:

Ensure all connections are secure: Double-check that the dock is properly connected to your laptop and power outlet, and that the monitor cables are firmly plugged into both the dock and monitors.

Confirm monitor power: Make sure your monitors are switched on and receiving power. Try different ports: If your dock has multiple DisplayPort or HDMI ports, try connecting your monitors to different ones.

2. Software checks: Update drivers: Update your laptop's graphics drivers and the HP Dock G5 firmware to the latest versions.

Restart your laptop and dock: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve glitches. Power off both your laptop and the dock, wait for a minute, then power them back on.

Extend display manually: Open the display settings on your laptop. Try to manually extend the display to the connected monitors, even if they're not detected initially.

3. Advanced troubleshooting:

Check Windows display settings: In Windows, go to Display Settings. If your monitors are detected but disabled, enable them here. Uninstall/reinstall HP Dock software: If your dock came with any software, try uninstalling and reinstalling it. Reset the dock: Some HP docks have a reset button. Consult your dock's manual or online resources to see if this is an option and how to perform it.
