Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I'll probably just get a USB card. Thanks again.

Updated my drivers, nothing has change at all.

My laptop is:

HP Pavilion dv6-3025sa Entertainment Notebook PC - Windows 7 64bit

Any other suggestions? It's driving me crazy. Hate not being able to watch videos smoothly anymore.

Dear Paul,

In December last when I had just bought this HP DV6-6021Tx Entertainment PC with a Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter, I had problems linking to my WiFi Router-a Linksys E4200. You had then pointed me to the Driver upgrade which resolved my problem but ever since my link speed has been 72 Mbps. I just came across your link pointing to the latest driver upgrade. I upgraded to version 5.100.82.130 with great hope. I regret to inform you that there has been no change in the link speed which is stuck at 72 Mbps. I tried every thing from changing Channels to Modes. NO change !! I wonder how some of the guys here have reported higher link speeds. Can you please suggest what I need to do ? Is it a problem with the router or with the laptop ?

Thankyou

Jo Neri

Hi, Jo:

I believe 72 MBPS is the going speed for that adapter when your router is set in mixed (B/G/N mode).

In order to get the 144 MBPS connection speed, I believe you need to set the router for N only and 40 MHz, not 20/40, or auto.

Of course, doing that will cut off any wireless G devices you have from connecting to your network.

Other than that, I have no other ideas you can try.

Hi Paul,
Thankyou for the superfast response. My E4200 does not seem to have a 40 Mhz combination with the N only mode. It is 20 Mhz
only. So looks like I am stuck with this speed.
Thanks all the same

You're very welcome.

I also have the E4200 and yes, there is only an auto setting (20/40), so leave it on that.

If you look at the 5.0 GHz band setting there is a 40 MHz only setting, and I guess I confused that setting with the 2.4 GHz band setting options.

All of my wireless cards work on "half speed" with the B/G/N mixed mode setting.

On the 5.0 GHz band, any 5.0 capable card I have runs full speed on N only - 40 MHz.  I even found out one of my cards can run at 450 MBPS.

Thanks for the driver download link. It hasn't brought any improvement for my wireless connection unfortunately. I hope I did it right: I downloaded the file, found the application called sp57434 in the downloads folder, double-clicked on that file, then when the InstallShield Wizard was completed, I restarted my laptop. I actually never saw a file called Setup.exe which the directions for the download referred to, so I'm not sure whether the Setup program actually ran or not :indifferent:

I have a brand new HP Pavilion dm1-4175sa, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I'm still having trouble connecting to the Wifi network, despite trying channels 1 to 11, changing the security settings on the router and making sure the laptop had the same settings, updating the wifi driver, and deleting the wireless network and manually re-adding it.

I've just taken it out to a coffee shop where it connected to their wifi just fine, but at home it still fails. The router (BT HomeHub) seems fine as my old Acer laptop connects to wifi OK.

I'm stumped as to what to try next - any advice please?

Many thanks.

I suggest that you and anyone else who finds that the Broadcom 4313 wireless card has terrible drivers do the same thing that I did: Buy a USB wifi adapter.

I bought an EDIMAX EW-7811Un nano adapter from Newegg for $10 (free shipping!) and I haven't had a problem with it since.  My Broadcom would constantly disconnect or fail to connect and gave me all sorts of problems, and I tried every driver they offered for it.  Broadcom just can't write very good software apparently, at least not for wifi+Bluetooth cards.  I gave up and bought this adapter.  It is nano sized, so I can just leave it in the one USB slot and not worry about it getting knocked out or broken.

I would have purchased an internal card replacement, but apparently HP whitelists certain hardware for their laptops, so you can't user-service the parts for a better model.  It's an abhorable practice, and I won't buy another HP laptop until I hear they've stopped doing that, but I'm stuck with this one and outside of the wireless it's been great.

Hi:

If you go to the device manager and under the Network Adapters section, click on your wireless adapter, then click on the driver tab you should see the driver version and date.

It should be close to the date of the file you downloaded.

I don't know what else you can try since you already did the things I would have suggested.
