Please help me find the fast USB port on my laptop. 🙂

In the device manager on my HP HP G60-100 Notebook PC series, it confirms that I have an enhanced USB port.  Can anyone please tell me which of the three ports is the fast USB port?  I have to back up a lot of information from my phone & it is taking too much time.  Difficult to test each port as I'm in the middle of a long transfer.

It is not shown in the product manual, the ports are only listed as USB ports.

Thanks!! 🙂

Hi,

I think that the Enhanced USB port is the one that is directly soldered to the motherboard and most likely on the left side of the laptop where HDMI, VGA or eSATA ports are located. Ports on the other side are connected to the motherboard by a cable and probably use a different USB controller.

Hi

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02985882.pdf

For G60-100EM (applicable to similar models released during that period), I could only find that all the the ports are same with USB 2.0 speed:

According to the standards for USB 3.0, the (inside of the ports would be "blue" in color.

I bought a Pavilion 15 recently - it's black in all the ports though there are two USB 3.0 & one USB 2.0, I think they are not using it now or its not being followed uniformly everywhere.

Are they designated with "ssUSB"?

oh...and that is strange...I thought I'd read that "blue" was a standard, not a suggestion....

Yes, it's SS - but I don't think the color code is still followed uniformly.

Thanks for your response. No they don't seem to be designated with ssUSB.  I did find in the Windows Device Manager that there is one "Enhanced" USB port & 2 normal ones on my notebook, but there doesn't seem to be a way to identify which is which.  I remember the person that bought me the computer had said it had one "high-speed" USB port, but he didn't know which one either. And nothing in the manual.  I just find it strange that it wouldn't be a simple thing to put into the manual, make standard, or differentiate visually.

Thanks for weighing in!

Thanks, that seems like it makes sense.  Will test but I'm not sure how to do a reliable test to prove it. 🙂
