Hi @Geminideb

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

Is this related to Windows password

or BIOS start-up password ?

* If related to Windows account password, please check this forum thread >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-forgot-my-password-can-HP-help...

* If related to BIOS/startup password before Windows loads

In this case, please enter some password (wrong password) 3 times, press ENTER and you should receive a new window stating system disabled and a code similar to this one (For HP Mini, should be 10 characters) :

Please, take note of the system disabled/halted code (write it down). Write the entire code back here.

Let me know how it goes. Provide your feedback.

Hi,

Officially, in such a case there is not much that can be done. Please, see this troubleshooting guide > http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=cantsignintowindows.net&as=true&section=social&sfs=forum&lan...

It is for Win 7 but it is the same as Vista.

If nothing helps, you may end up in reinstalling Windows (HP Recovery)
