Hi, I got this laptop many years ago and installed windows 7 32bit in it. I had 2 GB RAM (1GBx2 modules) one of my ram got burnt. NOw I wanted to upgrade its ram further. Can this laptop support 2x 2GB RAM module and reach 4GB RAM? This laptop has Intel Pentium T2060 and I want to know if this upgrade is supported. I can even buy new windows if 4GB RAM is possible because I think 4GB isnt supported by 32bit, am I right?
Awaitng a quick response
THANKS

Hi:
It depends on what BIOS version your notebook is running on.
HP has removed the links to all of the previous version BIOS updates and only has the latest one listed.
If my memory serves me correctly, I think your notebook has to be running v F.25 or newer in order to install 2 x 2 GB of memory in your notebook.
The problem is if you are not, you can't update the BIOS because you are running W7 and the flash is only good for Vista.
If you flash the BIOS running windows 7, you won't have to be concerned with how much memory your notebook can run because you will need a new notebook.
If you have BIOS v F.25 or newer installed, you can install 2 x 2 GB of memory but you won't get to use all 4 GB.
Probably between 3 and 3.25 GB will be usable but at least it will be running in DDR mode since you have matched capacities.
The processor in your notebook can only run a 32 bit operating system. It is not 64 bit capable.
And it wouldn't matter anyway. Even if you had a T7200 in there you still would only get to use the same 3-3.2 GB even with a 64 bit operating system.
Your notebook uses DDR2-PC5300 memory.

Sir
Thanks for a quick reply. i would like to know how can i upgrade my BIOS even if i have to revert to Windows Vista.
Please also explain what did this mean "If you flash the BIOS running windows 7, you won't have to be concerned with how much memory your notebook can run because you will need a new notebook."
Another thing i wanted to inform you that i have never used 2GBx2 RAM modules. I had been using 1GBx2 RAMs
Thanks

You're very welcome.
Yes you can update the BIOS if you install Vista.
What I meant is if you flash the BIOS using W7, it will destroy your notebook and it is irreparable.
The BIOS update should allow you to use 2 x 2 GB of memory.

Anytime.
Glad to be of assistance.
Yes, I believe that increasing the memory from 1 GB to 3 GB (with 2 x 2 GB chips) running in DDR mode should make a decent improvement in performance.
I say 3 GB because you won't see all 4 GB in Windows.
