Hi,

even if your fan had some problem image should appear any way it´s not related.

For your explanation it seems unit hangs at post and probably doesn´t reach the operating system and whenever the unit is turned on fan goes to maximum performance it´s a normal power on self test that unit make to check if all the hardware is working properly.

As it hangs on post fan keep working on maximum performance whihc might indacate some other hardware problem.

Please make a power reset. Unplug power supply, remove battery, press and hold power button for at least 30seconds. Then plug the power supply and try to turn on again.

If doesn´t turn on please remove both memories and insert only one, then try to turn on unit only with one memory plugged at each time.

If no image still appear, try to connect to an external monitor to check if it works there.

Is your unit in warranty?

Does fan make any mechanical noise or just spinning noise?

Best regards

Thanks!!!!!! I did a power reset as you said and the system came on but now its overheating really fast like in about 5min i have to turn off the system and let it cool and then power up again

my question is do you think i should get a replacement fan because at first wen the system starts i can feel air being sucked through the vent from under the system but after a while it seems to stop

Hi,

happy to help you solve the issue for now but that problem could cause other severe problems.

Clean air vents with compressed air then use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. But if there is too many dust will be important to open unit to clean properly the air vents all other components.Only do this last step if unit is out of warranty. If is on warranty it´s better to contact hp assistance.

After clean air vents, turn on unit and press F8 to access advanced boot options, select safe mode with network, then confirm your bios version pressing FN+ESC or using msinfo32.

Here is the link of an G61 bios update:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-90455-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=

Please confirm if it´s your model if not please tell me so i can tell what bios you need to update.

Also when turn on the unit, press F10 to access bios setup, go to system configuration menu and make sure fan always on is set to enable.

Any questions or doubts just ask don´t hesitate.

Best regards.

WHEN I TURN ON MY HPG61, ONLY THE LIGHT, BESIDE THE CAP LOCK, KEEP FLASHING. THE SCREEN IS DARK.

I TRIED ALL YOUR WAYS. STILL DO NOT WORK. THE LAPTOP WAS BOUGHT IN 2009.

HOW CAN DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM?

THANKS,

Hi,

thanks for your question.  The situation you´re describing is different of what i´ve posted before. For sure there are many topics about what you´re facing on your laptop.

That is not a good signal, sorry to tell. However a laptop with 6 years it´s good to have one nowadays...they don´t usually last so long unfortunately..seem they´re designed to work for 2 / 3 years...

About what you can do, first count how many times the caps blink.. 1 blink stop, repeat this over and over, 2 quick blinks stop repeat over and over, 3 quick blinks stop repeat over and over... you can also check this fault codes:

LEDs blink 1 time
CPU
CPU not functional
LEDs blink 2 times
BIOS
BIOS corruption failure
LEDs blink 3 times
Memory
Module error not functional
LEDs blink 4 times
Graphics
Graphics controller not functional
LEDs blink 5 times
System board
General system board failure
LEDs blink 6 times
BIOS
BIOS authentication failure

You can prey to be memory... so what you can do is to remove each RAM and test them one each time on each motherboard ram slots... you can check how to do it on the unit manual here:

http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01868653.pdf

Page 4-10 and 4-14

If issue persist i guess your board need to be replaced for a new one. If you are my neighboor i can replace it.. in this case you can look for someone near of you who can do it but, be carefull don´t trust on all who say they can do it some times they are just curious guys and just fix the issue temporarly... as the unit has 6 years you can also think to buy a new one... contact HP of your country and check if they have some promotion to offer in this case.

Good luck and if you have any doubts please just ask.

Regards
