Hi Guys,

I'm sure you'll have been asked before, but every post i find kind of answers my question, but not entirely:

What is the maximum speed and capacity of RAM can put in my Pavilion dv6 (Beats edition)? Completely factory standard

I want the fastest and largest amount of RAM i can get (I will mostly be doing heavy photo editing) and can i put an SSD in as well?

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz

RAM:

Slot 1:2GB SODIMM Hynix 1333MHz

Slolt 2: 4GB SODIMM Samsung 1333MHz

Radeon (TM) HD 6490M

System Board: 17F9 10.5A

Bios: F.1B

Kindest regards

Justin

You're very welcome, Justin.

Yes, that is correct. 2 x 8 GB of PC3-10600 memory.

Memory won't run any faster than the processor's FSB. Your processor's FSB is 1333 MHz.

For example: If you installed 2 x 8 GB of PC3-12600 memory (1666 MHz), it would only run at 1333 MHz.

I do not believe there is any DDR5 memory out yet except in video cards.

But you cannot mix DDR types of memory, as they run on different voltages and the notches are cut in different places on DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 memory modules to prevent someone from installing the wrong memory in the PC and damaging the memory, motherboard or both because of the different voltages they run on.

Best Regards,

Paul

Hi, Justin:

I would need your full model number to confirm, but the fastest memory you can run with a second generation i-series processor is PC3-1333 memory (PC3-10600)

The intel series 6 notebook chipset should be able to handle 2 x 8 GB of that speed memory for a total of 16 GB.

Go to your model #'s support page and click in the user guides.  There should be a service manual and in chapter 1 it will tell you how much memory you can install.

The processor specs at the link below indicate it can run with 16 GB of memory but you should confirm this with the service manual.

Hi, Paul;

Thanks for the swift reply, please excuse my ignorance.

Model:

HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa Entertainment Notebook PC

Supports the following configurations:

16384-MB total system memory (8192×2)

Does this mean i can put two 8GB 1333mhz sticks of DDR3 RAM? or could i increase the speed to something like: x2 8GB 1600mhz DDR5?

Again; please excuse my ignorance on a subject like this.

Kindest regards,

Justin.

[Edi: I just saw you answered most of that question in the first post: Max 1333mhz, but could you please confirm x2 8gb @ 1333mhz DDR3.]

Thx
