Is it possible to upgrade RAM memory of my "HP ENVY Notebook 17-r104nn" from current 16 GB to 32 GB? I've found that chipset (Intel HM170) supports maximum 32 GB RAM, but I am not sure.

Hi,
The chipset may support 32GB, Windows 64bit may support more. But the depending on hardware vendors implementations those numbers can vary. I know some work station class laptops support 32GB but in 4 slots, not 2.
Regards.

Your specs say you have the Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ installed.
If this is correct then that CPU can support.
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) | 64 GB |
Memory Types | DDR4-2133, LPDDR3-1866, DDR3L-1600 |
Max # of Memory Channels | 2 |
Max Memory Bandwidth | 34.1 GB/s |
ECC Memory Supported ‡ | No |

The CPU can support it . "Up to 64 GB "
What is your MEMORY TYPE??? "DDR4-2133, LPDDR3-1866, DDR3L-1600"

Thank you all for your help!
As far as I understand, all main components (CPU, chipset...) are supporting 32 GB RAM. If there is current limitation of 16 GB, could it be caused by hardware (i.e. some specific MB architecture - unchangeable), or it can be in the current software (BIOS) version?
If it is related to the software, I suppose there is a possibility that some newer revision of BIOS in the future could solve this issue?
