I have been facing a lot issue with HP service center. I have a laptop "Compaq Presario CQ42-356TU Notebook", which is my sister using at my Home Town Bareilly (UP). Last week she faced some hardware issue with the laptop where it is not displaying anything on screen but the power led is on.

She went to HP Service center to resolve this issue and HP guys investigate the issue and found Issue with RAM. They asked her to change the RAM and prepared a quotation for the same. This quotation only have one 2GB PC3 10600 1333Mhz RAM for the laptop and its total cost for replacements is 8341/- Eight thousand three hundred forty one rupees (6606/- Rs for RAM + Taxes).

When my sister informed me that HP guys quote this HIGH QUOTATION for just a 2 GB RAM then I was also surprised. I contacted HP Reseller (Meena Sangal, Eagle Information Systems (P) Ltd., New Delhi) and got a cost of 1600/- One thousand six hundred rupees only for same 2 GB RAM (HP Original).

One more thing..when my sister asked the reason for this high cost for RAM then they told that it is HP price which always high but if she go with their local services then it may cost her approx 3000/- rupee only. Which means HP Service partners are attracting customers to their local services by quoting high prices for HP services.

Can anybody help me to find out the reason for this high quotation of 1 RAM replacment?

I look forward for prompt responses..

Thanks,

Sachin Mishra

Hi,

Not just HP, all of them (Dell, Toshiba ...) and that they call SERVICE. That's a quote, you can always get another quote and even you can by RAM and replace it by yourself.

Hope this makes sense.

Thats is ture.. but my point is if customer coming to HP service center then atleast Hardware cost should be quoted correctly as it is uniform cost for any Service Center...

They are quoting 6605/- Rs for 1600/- Rs RAM ... GOD save us from these guys...

As I mentioned above - you have to pay more for the SERVICE and also for the NAME of the service. Let's talk this way: you can bring your car to the guys at your area for a cheap BUT you have to take time to go the the brand services centre to pay more, a lot more for same parts.

Regards.

I had a hard time looking up your product but I found some usfull infomation.

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario%20CQ42-402TU&Cat=SSD

You can upgrade to 8gb for your model, and looking at your compaq you have access underneath the computer. I have a hp dv5-1010us I upgraded myself in 10 mins tops. But you risk voiding your warrenty, as I did, but it was worth it for me and everything works great. There is a video when you go to the link that should help. Good luck.

So it means Customer should not think aboutn HP Services after sale as they always take out heavy money from your pocket... for Car service also.. they charge High services charges but parts always comes with same cost ...

HP service center sucks big time.... and this way we should go with local vender as I get my job done by purchasing the RAM in just Rs 1600 only ...

BEWARE OF HP SERVICE GUYS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You shouldn't think of in that way, they provide a service and it not something mandatory that they ask of you. I like the fact that their past HP products like yours, is the most easiest upgrade to do. I have own 4 hp computers so far and now that I have a HP Folio I'm still not going to ship it in for them to do it for me. I'll just have to do it myself and take my chances. It would only take you 15 minutes to do it yourself at most, and get yourself an ssd while your at it. But do it at your own risk. Check out some videos for it until you feel comfortable and good luck.
