HP Recommended

Hi, everyone.

I'm trying to determine what memory I should buy to add 2 GB of RAM to a Compaq 515 VF199LA notebook.

According to HP Support Assistant, it has an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core QL-64 processor and 1x 2GB DDR2/SODIMM Micron Technology 667 MHz RAM module.

What's confusing is that according to Compaq 515 Notebook PC - Spare Parts

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?sp4ts.oid=3957678&spf...

the memory module parts are:

Memory modules :
For use only on computer models equipped with an AMD processor:
2048MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538401-001
1024MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538400-001
512MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538399-001
1024MB (667 MHz, DDR2)
538397-001
512MB (667 MHz, DDR2)
538396-001
For use only on computer models equipped with an Intel processor:
2048MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538436-001
1024MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538435-001
512MB (800 MHz, DDR2)
538434-001
2048MB (667 MHz, DDR2)
538433-001
1024MB (667 MHz, DDR2)
538432-001
512MB (667 MHz, DDR2)
538431-001

You see for AMD the 2 GB module listed runs at 800 MHz, but Support Assistant reports the existing module to be running at 667 MHz.

Does this mean my laptop came with an incorrect memory module? i.e. it should have been an 800 MHz module, but they installed an 667 MHz module?

What module should I buy that will work together with the existing module?

I opened the memory section and the physical module reads:

CT:RAKQH95TFZC718

SPS:536401-001

MT18HTF25664HY-800G1

2GB 2RX8 PC2-6400S-666-13-ZZ

2GB, DDR, 800, CL6

Is this an 800 MHz module and somehow Support Assistant is reporting as being 667 MHz?

Using Kingston wizard for the Compaq 515 I get the following:

http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search?DeviceType=3&Mfr=HEW&Line=Business%20Notebook&Model=56774

Would the Kingston 2GB Module - DDR2 800MHz ; Part Number: KTH-ZD8000C6/2G work with the existing module?

Please advice.

Thanks!
