Interesting that HP Support is totally clueless and some user comes in and posts a solution.  Thumbs down SDF15.

Hi All,

I managed to fix this. (and this was the top search result in google - hence my reply here).

It's caused by "Palm Check Threshold" in the Synaptics Control Panel.

To solve it:

Click the Windows icon.

Click Settings

Click Devices

Select Mouse and Touch.

Scroll down and click on "Additional Mouse options".

(This will open the options window for the Synaptics Click Pad.)

Click the ClickPad  tab.

Click Settings...

This opens yet another window called Synaptics Control Panel.

Click the Advanced Tab.

Click the SmartSense tab (in fact it might be the first tab that is already open).

Slide the "Palm Check Threshold" all the way to the  LEFT.

Click Ok to all the windows you opened to get here.

DONE.

Enjoy!

Solution that worked on G72-B60US

Might be worth trying on your HP laptop.

HP and Windows update indicated that my drivers were up to date. However, I brought up device manager in my control panel.

I checked the audio input and output drives to see if they were up to date, by right clicking each. All said they were up to date.

I then moved down to Sound, video and game controllers and at the end found Realtek High Definition Audio. Surprise, it said this driver was not up to date. I updated it, and when it was complete I rebooted my system.

No more Mouse/Trackpad/cursor freezes or dissappearance.

Hope this works for you!!!

BTW, I tried running the W10 troubleshooter but it didn't fix.

A workaround to get back the cursor was to do cntl-alt-delete and then switch user, then enter your pin to go back to the same user.
