I was sitting at my friends house on my pc. I let the battery get to about 20% before i charged it because i hadnt let the battery run down for a day or two and it needs to be done to ensure the battery life. When i plugged it in i continued to use it. But it died. And since then i have been unable to get it on. Ive used  3 different HP chargers to charge it and it wont charge. Im not sure whats wrong with it. The only thing i could think of is that the port that the charger  goes into is messed up on my PC.

Could someone provide me with assistance and possibly a number so i can call HP and have them sort this out. Ive seen alot of tech assistance but im not sure which HP number i call for repair.

Thank you

try this:

remove the battery, other peripherals and the AC adapter... press and hold the power button for 20 seconds... plug the AC adapter only and turn on the notebook....

  • Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries category.
  • Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.

  • On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.

Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes.

Calling HP would be your last option... 😛

Does it power on with a charger plugged in without battery?

(If yes, but no power when battery is in, could be a problem with motherboard/power system.)

Do you get a light near the port that the power plug when it's plugged in?

(If yes, but nothing happens when you hit the power button with and without the battery, probably motherboard problem.-If no, then power is not getting that far...)

Is the power-in port physically ok, or is there a lot of movement of the socket?

(Seems like this is the most likely given what you've said so far... the port is loose and no longer making the proper connection between the power adapter plug and the inside the computer.)

Assuming you're in North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836. If you're still in warranty, they should be able to get the problem diagnosed for sure and get a resolution for you pretty easily.

While I am an HP employee, I am not a expert on all our products. If I offer advice, I'm not speaking for HP on how to solve an issue, but I'll do my personal best to help you.

Hello Pankay,

I just wanted to personally thank you for the quality advice you provided in this thread. Just over a week ago, my HPG62 simply stopped turning on at the most inconvenient time (very similar to the OP's issue). I've seeked professional advice from HP,  B.B. Geek Squad, etc...and I was repeatedly given the same response: buy a new computer or pay hundreds to fix the mother board.

Fortunately I wasn't so quick to fork over the cash. I just stumbled across this forum a half hour ago, followed you instructions, and I haven't had a single issue turning on my notebook since. I cannot thank you enough for your help, this computer is very valuable to me!

P.S. I'm not  sure if you will see this message since the thread was started months back, but I was wondering what the cause of this software issue was, and should I expect it to occur again in the future?

Thanks!

Hi I tried what you previously posted but the computer is still unresponsive. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

I did what you said for this problem on my HP pavilion 2150 and it worked and it turned on!!! But now that it's on, it gave me the HP screen but the only option was to press esc for options, after that it goes to a screen that says there was a failure and gives two options.  1) to proceed with repair 2) or to start normally  The problem is the keyboard is froze, I can't use the arrows or enter key.  I hooked up a keyboard but the keyboard works because when it first turns on you can hit ESC real quick and it accepts that but when it goes to the next screen it freezes....IDK what to do next??????
