I have a HP Pavilion G6 laptop and to be crude it's fluffy ducked. From the start I've had multiple problems and I am not impressed now. My touchpad has started to lag tirelessly and even when I increased the sensitivity it continues to lag. I don't want to install new drives because in personal experience they can (and will, a la Murphy's law) conflict with the native driver. I have plenty of disk space left and don't need more RAM. My touchpad right click is stuck and so I can't switch between tabs and find trouble doing other things and has been this way for at least a month but the touchpad itself has been fine until today. Any suggestions anyone? I don't want to uninstall the driver completely because that's tedious and annoying. So if you have any suggestions otherwise feel free, and if uninstalling it is the only way that's okay. Thanks!

Hmm.. Never heard of anything being "fluffy ducked" - can't say if that's crude or not.  Smiling.

Things to consider / try:

  • The slow down, if it is in your browser (tabs?), could benefit from clearing the cache.  Unless it's just the network and/or the websites you are visiting, clearing the cache may help clear out the "trash" from your browser and get you going again.
  • The slow down may be on your system.  You may have a "run away" or rogue process that is slowing down the system.  You can check this by running the Resource Monitor and looking for anything that is running that may be "stealing resource".  If you are convinced that you have enough native resource (RAM, disk space, cache, etc.), then this is a good place to look.
  • The slow down is less likely to be the touchpad itself, but drivers can become corrupt and less than their best just from being on the system.  Also note that some versions of the touchpad drivers do not have all the features available that can be used to properly set up the touchpad to be its most versatile.

=========================================================================

Browser Cache:

Dependent on Browser - see "Options" for most browsers.  Clear and restart thre browser.

Resource Monitor:

Start > search / type "resour" > Click on "Resource Monitor

(You may also Right-Click and Send it to your Desktop as a Shortcut if you like)

NOTE:  You can also get to the Resource Monitor from within the Task Manager.

Once you get the Resource Monitor up and running, the view will probably default to Overview.  You can leave it there or Click over to CPU.  Regardless, in the CPU frame, Click on the CPU column to sort by CPU usage.  There you go.  The process using the most CPU time will be on the top.

You can highlight and the right-click to kill a process if you want.

Process Killing:  BE CAREFUL!  If you do mess up, and kill something critical, crash the system (Press power key for ten seconds) and restart.  The computer will hate you for a minute, but should recover.  Don't do this lightly - hard crashes are "hard" on the system.

Synaptics TouchPad Driver:

If you like, you can use the Synaptics TouchPad driver from the Synaptics website.  Select the driver for your Operating System (for example:  Windows 7 - 32/64 bit).  This synaptics TouchPad driver has all the features one can imagine for the TouchPad.

Good Luck!

You are an absolute lifesaver. And I am a murderer, apparently, for killing some processes! Cleared my cache (and everything in my history, for that matter) and then went to Resource Monitor. Thankfully I kept all my critical things (unlike last time I was uninstalling a few things and uninstalled my audio driver! yikes, thank bejeebus for system recovery), and it's not lagging anymore. Thank you for the help! 🙂 And Fluffy Ducked, is, well...google it. LOL

So... Lifesaver?  I am moving up in the world.  You are welcome.  Smiling.

As suspected:  Fluffy Ducked has nothing to do with fowl nor anything particularly fluffy.  I feel enlightened.  Not sure when I'll use it, but I do think I'll add it to my "List of Interesting Things in the World". I do love interesting things.  Smiley Happy

Keep that Resource Monitor around.  Pull it up on occasion to learn what the system looks like when it is behaving and you will know more quickly when something is "out of place".  It is easier to spot the interlopers when you know what the good guys look like...

The Synaptics Driver is a good one.  Synaptics is able to update their drivers more frequently than is HP and they provide all the "bells and whistles".   The reason HP cannot update their drivers as often is not because "they don't care":  HP is a vast empire of different kinds of environments and they must TEST, TEST, TEST to make sure things are "just so" before anything is released.  It takes forever to do that and makes it almost impossible to get anything done.  It looks like they are standing still from the perspective of the "real world" the rest of us actually live in.

Good Luck!
