I was resetting my PC because for about the past week it has been running extremely slow. After 5 hours of waiting for the reset it restarted the computer, now it is on an eternal loading screen and has been like this for about 2 1/2 hours. I called my friend for assistance because he knows about computers and he said there might be an issue with the writing going to the hard drive, because the light is not repeatly blinking, it is only flashing once very 5 seconds or more

Hello @Slaugy

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

Your PC originally comes with WIndows 8.1 preinstalled by HP but you state you run Windows 10 in your intiial post. If this is the case, this might be causing the issue.

The recovery failed to completed because :

-1- either the recovery image/partition is corrupted

or

-2- because of hardware issues (HDD issue, for example)

Option -1- is very common because the upgrade to Win 10 often causes such symptoms.

Please, perform some basic hardware checks

1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button

2. Power it on.

2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA

If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD and RAM check.

Let me know the test results.

Let me know which operating software you prefer to run - Windows 8.1 or WIndows 10

Depending on your choice I will post specific instructions how to complete the recovery process if all the hardware tests pass without issues.

Looking forward to your reply.

All of the systems passed, but it says "System Quick Test: Failed" with the "Failure ID: 9K4F01-7G8LL-MFPV7F-60QX03". And I prefer Windows 10.

Hello,

This code is an indication of a problem.

Please, verify the code as this one is incorrect. There is a missing character in the second block. Once I have the code I should be able to tell you what is the problem. Looking forward to your clarification

@Slaugy

Thank you !

The code says "Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure" . Your friend was right and this is the reason for the slowness and issues with recovery.

Since this is faulty HDD, you will probably not be able to recovery your files. You can try to but there is no guarantee - best would be to recover files from a previously created back-up. I will post instructions *below* how to attempt to access your files if you want to (please, let me know).

With regards to the faulty hardware part - your options are:

1) If your computer is still under warranty, please contact HP Support and inform them. They will work with you about the way to replace the faulty component.  Contact HP:

2) If your computer is with warranty period expired, you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy it on your own. Your friend may be able to provide you on-site assistance.

There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from. You can get it online or from PC retail store, or from HP parts store http://partsurfer.hp.com/

You need HDD with the very same size as the current one or bigger (small will not work) - e.g. if your current HDD is with 500 GB capacity, your new HDD/SDD must also be 500 GB or with bigger capacity.  It is recommended that your new HDD is with speed 7200 RPM (not 5400),

How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD:  please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for your HP model.

Service and maintenence guide - page 44 (54) >>> http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04763947

It might be a bit difficult and if you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:

Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another.

You need to obtain original HP Recovery media to reinstall Windows, drivers, apps... This is the correct kit for your machine >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-24457-windows-81-64-bit-usb-recovery-kit-785699-001-for-hp-pavilio...

Once you obtain the recovery media, you need to boot from it. Here are instructions how to complete the recovery

Please, let me know how it goes and do post back if you need assistance. Looking forward to your feeback/reply.

No need to order Recovery Media for Windows 8 since you stated you prefer Windows 10. This would also eliminate limitations of hdd size.

Use the free Media creation tool from Microsoft to make a Windows 10 installation usb flash drive:
