So I've had this computer for a couple weeks now. It's hp envy dv7 with installed camera thing. Today when I went to the camera, it suddenly said "connect a camera". I've tried researching what to do and I've redownloaded some thing again, but it's not working. If someone could please help me, thanks... 🙂

The "camera thing" is your built in webcam.

There are a few things you can try with software to fix this, THEN you should CALL HP:

HP Notebook, TouchSmart, and AiO PCs - Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 😎

The Hard Reset:

This method works for a variety of Driver connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.

  • Shut down the computer
  • Disconnect all external devices - everything.
  • Remove (disconnect / unplug) the AC power
  • If the notebook contains a removable Battery, remove it
  • Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
  • Reinstall the AC power cord for first startup ** See Note
  • Power on - Log in
  • Next time you shut down the system, reinstall the battery.

** Note:  If time is short, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

CALL HP - this is a new notebook - and it is likely that, if nothing else fixes the problem, that the little webcam wires are loose, broken, disconnected... Silly webcam wires can last for years - or not at all.  You need to get this fixed and you may as well get it fixed under warranty:

You are welcome, hp whatsup.

I hope the webcam responds to a software fix so you are back in action right away!

Happy Computing!
