Hi, I love my HP laptop and do take a really good care of it. However, couple of days ago while commuting on the train I managed somehow to drop twice it on the floor of the train. It was inside the sleeve. No cosmetic damage was done to it. Also, it works fine as it always has, but I am worried something might have been broken or come lose inside and that it would suddenly stop working. Could someone please answer me how secure is the hardware from getting damaged or lose in such situations and should I take it to be checked? I repeat, it seems to work perfectly fine right now 2 days after the fall. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hi,
The odds are, if it's working perfectly Ok, that there has been no lasting damage done. The fact that it was in a sleeve may well have helped. Also, most HP notebooks have some sort of Hard Drive protection software ( ie HP 3D DriveGuard for example ) which will park the drive heads if a fall is detected and so avoid damaging the platters on the drive as this is often what is damaged during a short fall.
As a further check on the Hard Drive, you could run the following diagnostic.
Click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'. In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start. Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take a couple of hours to complete before loading back into Windows.
If this is Ok, I would say you can breathe a sigh of relief
