Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

So I bought a new system board for my laptop online without knowing which model it came from, so I checked the Bios for the product number which is XB531EA#ABU. Then I checked HP drivers website and entered the product number which said the model number is Dv6-3031sa. When I researched the specifications for that model, it says the GPU in this board should be Radeon HD 5470m. However driver updates detected Radeon 5650m, hardware Ids in device manager confirms it is a 5650m

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_1440103C&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_1440103C
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&CC_0300

It is a better GPU so I'm not complaining, just windering why the model and GPU's down match. Thanks

Hi @LBrad ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-3031sa Entertainment Notebook and seeing the wrong graphics card. It could be in the BIOS.

I would restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings would have the Notebook look at the new motherboard.

I would need the serial number to make sure what model it is. Please review the HP Privacy Statement . Then send it to me in a private message.

Thanks.

Thanks i did update the BIOS(insyde H20 rev 3.5) from the recent version to the latest f.29...

I private messaged you the serial number found in BIOS system info. All other info seems to be accurate; processor type, RAM, etc

On an unrelated issue, the computer randomy shuts off after a couple minutes of use in the BIOS. It seems to happen when using anything expect the win 7 operating system. For example, windows startup repair, running harware tests in the BIOS, memtest86+ which is run from a boot disk. The computer shuts down after about 2 minutes...but can run run windows 7 and can play graphically intensive games for an hour without a shutdown. The fan and heatsink are free of dust

Hey @LBrad ,

Thanks for the additional information. It shows me on the site that it has a 5000 series driver. It version is 8.712.12000- This laptop shows me that it is Re-engineered. So the parts could have been different from the original parts.

I would uninstall the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center.  When you restart after the uninstall I would try restoring the BIOS defaults. An updated BIOS will look at what is already in the BIOS or that version of BIOS. Restoring the BIOS will look at the hardware installed and could help with the intensive games. If you have tweaked the BIOS to run higher you would see this issue.

Thanks.

Re-engineered meaning the system board was sent back to HP and had new BIOS or graphics units soldered onto it?

It runs the operating system and CPU and GPU intensve tasks fine. It did have a problem where the audio and video would lock up randomly for a few seconds, then the WIFI would disconnect with "no connections available" until I restarted the PC.

Reinstalling or updating the network, BIOS and graphics drivers seems to have fixed that issue...however still having the issue where the computer shuts off completely when attempting to use the Bios for more than a couple minutes, windows startup repair also and when I ran memtest86 from a boot disk...
