Hi guys,

Today I installed windows 7 on an old machine and my network adapter didnt show up in device manager. This is a hp pavilion ze5700, its old. and I cant connect to internet or hear sound. i think if i figure out the network adapter, i can maybe download the driver for it and connect. I have 3 yellow triangles with exclamation marks showing in Device Manager for Ethernet Controller, Network controller and PCI Modem. Sound is showing as working as I installed realtek ac 97 audio drivers but these have not worked.

Was looking forward to getting 7 on this old lappy see how it was, please can anyone offer any help, perhaps even a link or 2?

Thanks, Ash

Hi,

Try this one for your National Semiconductor 10/100 MacPhyter3v PCI Adapter. If it works then you might be able to find generic drivers for the other devices on the Windows update website.

Go to device manager and right click the network adapter. Select Details and select Hardware ids. Post the exact results that you get.

Were you ever able to install Vista on the laptop?

Hi,

For your wireless driver download the Intel PROSet driver  from this web page at Intel.. Your wireless is the Pro/wireless 2200BG.

The Ali Audio accelerator  driver for your multimedia audio controller is here.

Will you actually use the telephone PCI modem?

Please post your results here.

Hi again,

I dont use wireless...I just have a standard wired router.

I tried it anyway and got this error message when installing:

XML parse error in file "install.xml" at line 0, column 0;

The system cannot locate the objects specified.

"(null)"

It did install though and I have 5 bars with a red cross in the system tray and it is recognised in device manager, but yeah, I dont have wireless...what can I do?

The audio driver did not work, installed successfully but still have the red cross over speaker and yellow traingle in device manager for multimedia audio controller.

Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for your help so far.

Hi again,

What exactly do I need to do with that package once I've extracted the files? Tried just running the LAN setup and it installed but its given me no joy. I've thought about a bios update can't believe I didnt think of that earlier, its a phoenix bios version KH.F.21. The newest available for this ze5700 is KH.F.25! Can only find bootable floppy download though and I dont have a floppy drive!! Do you know by any chance if there is a cd version of that around? Would save me the expense of a usb floppy drive in this seemingly futile quest....

Thanks again,

Hi Ash,

Reinstall windows XP and then updating the BIOS with the ROMPAQ is the simplest way for most people.

Then you can save all the Windows 7 drivers to either a thumbdrive or an external hard disk  Otherwise you can make a bootable USB stick. Most people find that to be a bit of a hassle unless done from within windows XP. The problem is that you need the Bootable floppy DOS files and the boot sector that you can easily get from XP. There is a utility from HP (an old one) that works well with XP.

I still need a floppy to do that though right? Am back on xp and have the ROMPAQ. Tried to create a bootable cd and usb stick using a virtual floppy drive but dont know how to do it.
