After I installed the HP assistant widget, I lost my sound.  I see I am not alone and this is a recurring HP problem.  I quit buying HP printers, I may have to expand that decision to PC's also.  This laptop has been good otherwise, though.

I'm glad I found this site - I've been struggling with this for a year now.  I have a DV9500 - loved it up until a year ago.  First I lost my wireless "card", then audio - I reinstalled everything a few times - upgraded to win7 each time - I need sound for my job - had to buy a new laptop (MAC) - I still us the HP as a spare, but what a JOKE .... it's an expensive dust collector - had battery issues too, but I won't even get into that  - If HP ever gets off their butt to fix THEIR problem, they might have a chance of staying in business

Believe it or not I tried that but my computer would not show these in order to uninstall them. It did not have them located in the device manager because all at once they were not even recognized so this was not even remotely possible.

Why is this marked "solved'? It's not. HP is a joke. Customer support for these junk boxes will get even worse after they lay off 27,000 workers.

hi my device says no audio output device is installed so i cannot locate it to do what you suggested, any other advice?

The problem is a pooly designed and or assembled motherboard. The solution ids to have the offending chip resoldered.

I've done about everything to fix - "audio output device installed". After reading this forum I'm done with trying and done with HP.

Seems like this forum is the only thing they  got right
