hi all, I too have this problem, I am scrolling down and seeing all these comments and I am seething through my teeth. I really cannot believe how windows or whoever is responsible is seeing all this and not doing anything about it. This is absolutely crazy folks.
I do not know what to do and i think that is where they want us all cause they want us to purchase a new one.
That is whats wrong with technology they know these devices will have problems so that they will have a chance to to add another feature and pretend they now came up with it. So they have a new product and we run and buy.

Reinstall the audio drivers from Recovery discs.
Visit the below weblink for more information on how to install drivers from recovery:

If the issue still persists, try the following steps
Reinstall the operating system that does not include any service pack. Check for the issue now.
Install Service pack now and then perform Windows Update and this must fix the issue.

Re: No Audio Output Device Installed
Good luck! HP is not willing to take control of this issue. It does not matter which model notebook you have, it seems to be a consistent problem with HP and their solution is to send it in for a fee of $300-400. My current model is dv4. The HP pavilion I bought in 2007 had multiple issues and was finally replaced by Best Buy under their extended warranty after it went out for servicing five times. In April 2009 I stupidly replaced it with another HP notebook, my current one which now has to be sent out for servicing. I bought HP Notebooks for 3 of my children when they went to college and two of them have had to be replaced. This makes the fourth HP Notebook that ran into problems when they were under two years old. NEVER AGAIN will I buy another HP product because they are inferior products.

No Audio Output Device has red slash
Hmmm! doesn't want me warning the public about their poor products because they block it with the following message:
Please correct the highlighted errors and try again.

I had the same issue on my HP Pavalion dv6700 after a previous update installation when I noticed the message of No Audio Ouput Device Installed message as I cursored over the "speaker icon". Long story short, I tried everything. Here is the fix.
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
When you get to that homepage, uncheck the Free McAfee® Security Scan Plus. Then click on the agree and install now link.
Not only did the installation of adobe flashplayer fix the No Audio Ouput Device Installed issue, but if you were having problems with not being able to view videos/advertisements on some webpages, this download will clear that problem up too.

OK guys ive had this exact same problem mine is fixed now and heres what causes it its on basically every high end hp made since 2007 its the solder joints on the nvidia chip breaking due to overheating. all i had to do was reflow my mother board and all great works like brand new my recommendation is to get some cooling gel or something of the sort to put between the nvidia chip and heatsink because what hp put there doesnt do the job at all which is why we have this problem anyway. i reflowed my motherboard lastnight at home for free LOL feel free to email me or contact me on here and ill give the instructions

I was having the "no audio device" issue also, with a bit of a twist: In dealing with another, unrelated problem, I had to swap out the hard drive on my HPzv6000 and install a new one with a fresh installation of Windows XP. What I found was that the new hard drive showed "no audio device," while the old one (when I swapped it back in again) allowed the sound to work fine. This made me suspect that, in my case at least, it was a software, not a hardware, issue. I then followed one of the links suggested by a previous posted (http://notebook-solutions.blogspot.com/2009/05/no-audio-in-notebook.html) and followed steps which ultimately led me to seeing a number of yellow ?s in some device manager; I had Windows update the driver for the audio item listed there, and it found and installed a driver which has fixed the problem.
Clearly not everyone is finding a solution; but this did work for me. Hope it helps!
