I, too, have the HP recovery discs and am still having problems.  I have a Pavilion dm4 running Windows 7.  The memory and hard drive short and long diagnostic tests report all okay.  I try to boot the recovery disc from internal CD drive, as well as from a USB CD drive. The Windows boot start and then stops with the message "Reducer - Application Close (Info) No HDD.  Is the hard drive bad in spite of the ok tests.  Can someone please help before I spend money having this thing looked at?

I hope this might help.  I ran across this before on Dell laptops.  I have 2 suggestions.  First try checking your BIOS defaults.  If the Optimal setting is enabled, disable it.  The second suggestion is to restore your factory defaults in BIOS.  This has worked on Dell.  I hope it works for you.  Thank you.
