I am trying to connect my notebook to my TV through DisplayPort. I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable. The image is fine, but no audio is coming through. I do not see the TV as device in the Sound panel, and I only have the IDT audio control panel (not the Intel one).
Any ideas?

Solved.
The issue was in the latest version(s) of the NVidea driver. I uninstalled the driver, then installed the driver that was originally shipped with the laptop (driver version Oct 2010). The TV came up immediately as playback device and sound is working now.

Hi,
Not all Display Ports carry sound can you see a + sign next to Display Port on your laptop ? If yes, you may need a different DP-HDMI cable to get sound.
Regards.

I agree with you that the problem was the Nvidia driver... but I wouldnt say it is solved... the problem occurs again when you upgrade to Windows 10.
Even if you deceid to install a older driver and get it working windows will continue to install the newest driver availibly and the problem is back.
The only solution is if HP releases a new video driver that works, or talk to Nvidia what seems to be the problem and they fix it in furture versions of their driver... I guess thats the driver beeing installed by Windows 10.
This is very annoying 😞
