HP Pavillion 15T
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

After the last Bios update I lost my sound and had to follow another thread to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I then had audio but at unacceptably low volumes. I just did a hard reset and I have more volume, but not as much as I think I should being that I have super sensitive hearing. It should blast me out of the room on high. However, since my computer was relatively new I had not used the headphones up until after this problem.  So I have no way of knowing if the BIOS change made me only able to hear out of one side of the headphones. I assumed it was an old set of earbuds and bought another pair. That is not the case. I am using Windows 8.1 that came installed on my computer not an update that I performed. All updates and drivers have been checked to make sure they are the latest. I have audiobeats.

Hi @MichelleS1 ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15T Notebook and issues with the sound. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound if you need it.

Please make sure your updates have been done on the Notebook. In the device manager under sound right click and update the driver. Here is another step to try.

1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
2. Click Playback Devices.
3. Click Speakers/Headphones.
4. Click Properties.
5. Click the Advanced tab on the Properties window.
6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
7. Apply the properties.
8. Click OK to close the properties window.
9. Click OK to close the Playback Devices.

What browser are you using? I would check to make sure the browser is up to date.

Does this happen when playing a DVD or CD?

Have you tried a different pair of headphones?

You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others.

Please let me know how this goes.

Thanks.

Changing the speaker quality to the highest setting gave me more sound, but not enough. It also didn't change the fact that I can only hear from one of the sides of the headphones. My sound driver was up to date. I use chrome and it is up to date, I tried explorer (also up to date) and that didn't change sound or the only one ear problem. The document was on Win 7 sound, and I have win 8.1 it related to NO sound, not LOW sound, or hearing from only one side on the headphones.

The sound problem is universal. It happens with Cds or DVDs as well as any computer noise, or anything through an internet browser. I bought new headphones before my original post, and to my chagrin, that wasn't the problem either.

I will go work on the bios link now to see if it fixes anything.

My bios version said F.34 or something to that effect. That seemed weird. I was able to walk around in there and reset the bios. It didn't change anything so I will give a call. I really don't want to go through that again as this is a replacement computer for one that was a mess and took 5 months to sort out with support. Unlike the last time, I have all my programs installed etc. If I have to return it, or do that stupid reset to factory specifications thing again I will scream!!!!!!

Thanks for your  help and instructions, I wish it would have worked.
