When you access the BIOS does it give you the lines ?

I know it does when you boot into windows.

Now, If the display is blank (either all black or all white), or the image is cracked or distorted during the boot process, there is probably some physical damage that will require repair or replacement.

So, If the image is clear in the BIOS state but distorted in the Windows state, it may be possible to correct the problem by installing the latest BIOS, CPU chipset, and Windows graphic drivers.

So please let me know if that's the case with the BIOS. So shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as soon as you press the power button to access the Bios Menu.

In my situation the lines appear at bootup 3 lines from top to bottom, the screen image seems to be streched out top to bottom, but appers normal otherwise except for the lines, you just can't see the bottom images, like start ect. if I touch the side or back or move the screen back or forward then the screen comes back to it's normal image with no lines and stays that way unless bumped or moved. could the inverter be the cause or a bad ground, I had to replace the henges because they broke.

I did buy another screen, but it would not come on and when tested with a lcd tester, it was dark with a orange color, so I put the org. screen back in, booted up ok, but with the lines. I have tried 3 differt inverters and 3 different cables from motherboard to lcd.

Also it seems that when the screen is streched it has lines that appear because the image is pulled appart, then when bumped the screen go's to normal and the lnes pull back together.

Yea, seems to be a hardware issue. I would Call HP @8004746826 or get a local tech to take a look at the screen.

I have lines at boot up, the screen is longer from top to bottom then nomal, ie; you can barly see the start button ect. But when I the press on the back of the laptop screen or tap on the side of it or move the screen, the lines go away and the screen returns to normal size and stays that way unless bumped or shut down. Acts like a bad connection or ground? Or the inverter not working correctly ?

Very well could be. I would get the unit looked at because seems like again the LCD underneath the screen is giving you a issue. If you're applying pressure from the back of the screen and there's line appearing and going away you have an issue hardware wise.

So i would get it looked at to make sure what you need to replace.

Or call HP @8004746836 the will give you the exact part # so you can look up what you need.

I do have a way to test the lcd, and I beleave at this point the lcd is bad, but still working, I did get another lcd form ebay, the person that sold it to me said it was working, but did not say how well. after testing it with a lcd tested. I found that the blub was going bad, I suppose I could take it apart and replace the blub, but that is a daunting task and it probably would be easyer just to find another.

Well, from the document this issue is a bad LCD. It's your call on what you want to do. I say get a local tech to take it apart and check underneath the screen for a cracked LCD physically. If not you might be buying a part you don't need.

Also, when you do buy a part. Try HP first Ebay seems to be 50/50.

Well I would love to have that done, since I am on ss and a limited income, thats not possible, but I beleave I could do it myself, since I have been a computer tec for over 15 yrs, retired from same. the computer I work on was back in the late

80's  90's to 2000's, but I beleave I can use that experance to to this, even though these are much newer.

I do have lcd testing equipment to test the elecrinics of the lcd's, as well as the lcd tubes.

As you said the only way to test the lcd screen insides is take it apart, but to consider the time to do this, it might be easyer to buy another, if the price is right.

The only thing thats stange is if you move the screen back and forth, the image comes back in and works ok till the next time you use it, another person that works for HP says if that happens, it's more than likely to be a bad lcd ?

But I have the time to keep working with it for a while to find another cause, and since I have not tested it for all defects, then I will be pretty shure whats going on.

I do thank you for your help and well give you kodos.
