I bought my Pavilion 17-e101ed notebook about 9 months ago and since 2 months I'm stuck at a black screen right after the UEFI boot screen (HP logo). I tested all of my hardware (no problems) and I even reinstalled Windows 8.1. Also, no errors (LEDs, sounds) are shown/heard. The only thing that has changed is the LCD screen, which has been replaced after it broke. I can't think of anything else that could have caused the problem.
The weird thing is that I am able to run Ubuntu without problems. However, I need to switch back to Windows, because I need to run software for school that can't run through Wine.
I haven't been able to install an older version of Windows (Windows Vista or 7), since everytime I want to enable Legacy Mode (and disable Secure Boot) my BIOS goes corrupt.
Several IT workers have looked through the notebook and couldn't find the problem. Hopefully you can find the right solution.

Hi @dannydehaas01 ,
Thank you for your inquiry.
I see you purchased your notebook about 9 months ago. You have replaced the display but when you try booting into Windows you get a blank or black screen.
If you boot into Ubuntu the display works.
Can you boot into Safe Mode with networking?
If you can please do all HP updates.

As the notebook was a fairly recent purchase, you should contract HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to find and fix problems.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside of the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Phone Assist Worldwide

I'm sure I installed all of the latest drivers and software (downloaded from the exact same spot your link directs to). After installing Windows the screen goes black at a certain point while I'm busy with the laptop (installing stuff). This happens randomly (not during one installation only, I've checked that).
Since the default OS isn't on the notebook anymore, I doubt that customer support can remotely access my notebook.
If anyone could help me solve the part where the UEFI goes corrupt when trying to enable Legacy mode, I should be able to detect the other problems myself.

Thank you for your reply.
Have you all your driver updates?
Here is a link to Restoring the BIOS that will guide you through that process. If you still have a difficulty you can try booting to the bios screen. You should see an option along the bottom to restore defaults. Try that one also.
They could still access your system remotely, but would most likely have you start with a recovery to reinstall the original software. I understand that you may not wish to do that.
Good Luck!

Thanks for your fast reply.
I have restored the BIOS a few times before. The problem is it keeps going corrupt everytime I try to enable Legacy Mode. I need to enable Legacy Mode in order to test if the problems exist with Windows 7.

Hey again,
Thank you for your reply.
I believe you are correct without an OS they are unable to remotely access your system.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

Could anyone provide me with the filename of the latest BIOS Update? It's not available on the website anymore and my BIOS is corrupt again, so I need to know which file I need from the FTP server (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/) to restore my BIOS.

Thank you for your response.
I regret the delay but I am happy to provide a link to the latest recommned bios for your notebook.
Best of Luck!
