Need XP32 driver for:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7605&SUBSYS_103C1666

I've tried 9 different SoftPAQs (intresting they still call 'em SoftPAQs, its a throwback to the old Compaq days) all labelled "IDT High Definition Audio Codec". Unfortunately, they don't give a complete listing of the what devices are supported and I have to download and check the DEV_ID  and SUBSYS in the INFs manually.

Apparently IDT Audio was bought by Tempo Semiconductor, and they don't serve drivers to the public. Anyone know of a way to search HP's driver database by DEV_ID? Or can someone point me to the correct driver?

TIA.

EDIT:

The newer driver versions are STWRT.(cat, sys, inf) -- I think these are Win7 32/64 and later. I think I need the older STHDA.(cat, sys, inf) drivers for XP32 compliance.

TLDR;

Use Realtek drivers (I used v2.74):

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...

I'd tried working with drivers released by other vendors (Lenovo, Gateway, Dell, Conexant, ASUS, etc.) with INFs that appeared to support my Hardware IDs and editing INFs of similar drivers from the same 92HD7x - 92HD8x series. Almost 12hrs and 1GB worth of audio drivers later, it became apparent to me that the vendor released drivers may support custom audio extensions or have some sort of batch/SN lockout because I kept getting ERR10 "Device failed to start" or ERR31 "A device attached to the system is not functioning".

Undaunted by my growing frustration, I pulled the information off the audio IC chip and began googling. Surprisingly -- though in retrospect I probably shouldn't have been -- its actually a very common IC manufactured by Realtek that is tweaked and rebranded by a host of other vendors, IDT being one of them. Unlike HP or IDT, Realtek does serve legacy drivers to the public, obviously with any vendor-specific extensions disabled.

I downloaded and installed the drivers -- no INF tweaking or MS-UAA necessary -- and it functions correctly. See below for a list of (hopefully) supported Hardware IDs:

Hi:

I hate to be a pessimist, but you will have a very hard time trying to get the audio to work in XP on the g4 or g6 models.

Many have tried all have failed.

I wore myself out trying to help those folks, and gave up.

Some hints, but I doubt they will work...

1. If you installed XP SP2, you must install the MS UAA bus driver and reboot before installing the actual audio driver.

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=3688870&sp...

2. Try the IDT XP audio drivers from the HP Probook 4520s, 4530s and 4540s.

3. Read the helpful XP downgrade guide at the link below.   Read the info under the Difficult Models section.

There are some suggestions and drivers linked for the IDT audio.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/General-XP-Downgrade-Guide-for-...

Let me know if you get the audio to work, and please let us know what the magic trick to do it was.

Good luck!

With the Vista RTM and XP SP3 HALs being virtually identical, you'd think an early Vista driver (e.g., Gold/RC) could be hacked and *forced* onto an XP SP3 system and function correctly.

I suppose that's not the case -- its speaks volumes that one would even have to consider such an option, given the resources at HP; We are witness to the final knell of the once prized tradition of customer service.

Nonetheless, your suggested resources are both appreciated and invaluable. Despite your pessimism, I'll give 'em a shot.

You're very welcome.

One of the things you need to do if you have not done so already, is to at least work with a driver that has the hardware ID for your specific audio chip in the setup information file.

I would try manually installing the driver by browsing all the way down to the setup information file that has the hardware ID for your audio chip and select the device from the list.

I do not understand why none of the advice I have shared with the folks that have tried this has worked.

If you can't find one with the hardware ID for your specific audio chip in the setup information file, try adding it, or modifying one of the existing lines to match the hardware ID for your audio chip.

Hi PETI.  I actually found an XP based IDT Audio driver for "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7605&SUBSYS_103C1666"

It was packaged in some unlikely HP Softpaqs - sp63376 and sp63555.  Both contain IDT HD Audio driver 5.10.6491.0 for Windows XP.  Try any of those two on your Pavilion G4 using Windows XP.  The XP drivers are signed by IDT, not Microsoft [non-WHQL], so you will have to click "Continue Anyway" to continue installation of the drivers but they should work [many XP based audio drivers from IDT/Conexant/Realtek made in late 2013 & beyond may no longer be WHQL signed by Microsoft].

On the other hand, it was too good to be true.  the R2.74 Realtek audio drivers you mentioned do NOT work on my IDT Audio device (I'm using HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690).   Realtek drivers require Realtek audio with hardware IDs beginning with HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC, not with 8384 or 111D.
