r6,
See the Post in this thread, dated 01-29-2012
- It is possible you do not yet have the drivers you need for your built in webcam.
- Check at your website, download and install the drivers as instructed.
- After driver install, Reboot (Restart) your computer and then check to see if the 'cam is working.
- Try a Hard Reset - this reconnects all the hardware in the Notebook to the Device Manager and may convince the camera that it should be working again.
Hard Reset:
Sometimes all you need to do is kick the computer. This method works for a variety of connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.
- Disconnect all external devices first.
- Remove AC power and the battery
- Press and hold power button for at least 30 seconds
- Reinstall only AC power for first startup ** See Note
- Power on - Log in
- Next time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.
** Note: If time is short, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.
Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues
- If you have a warranty, CALL HP.
- NO Warranty? Do what others have done, fix it yourself - webcams are notorious for loose wires. Do not take apart your Notebook unless you are certain you want to do it... Check your notebook's website for a Service manual for details on how the notebook comes apart.

I fixed my dv6-6167cl by taking off the bezel and pulling out the plug on the webcam and putting it back in. Now it works fine. It has instructions on how to do it on page 61 of this http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01758220.pdf

I have the same problem too. HP support said they would call me back and I have not recieved any call yet. Expected better service from HP. This is my 3rd HP laptop but this experience will make me think about other options next time.

Yes I also tried everything to no avail... I am never going to recomend HP products to my friends or relatives again. Its gotten too big and money grubbing. I rarely used my web cam & they want me to take it for an expensive repair. Buyers Beware!

Leave all that stuff just follow two easy steps.
1. Remove all your usb devices first and then try to open the youcam software.
2. If it goes wrong then try for this step, Open devicemanager and in that check for "imaging devices" under that there should be any one of driver name otherwise it may be the hardware problem.
It wil work enjoy...:)

I think this maybe of use,Have only just purchased this from my local comets to find that the webcam was not functioning ,as i could not be bothered to go and try to explain to the staff and then to be told that sorry sir you will have to return the unit back for repair or replacement ,I decided to find any faults starting with software upgrades, then on to Bios upgrades ,Failing that Hardware Removal in Control and System Hardware. So the final Straw was to look for obvious Mechanical issues.Started with the Display Panel ,Fine Spudger Tool too Separate outer casing to show internal workings " do not forget the 2 Screws under the little Rubber feet at the base of the screen". and Check the Cable connections to the Camera Module, There for me was the Remedy ,It had become very Partialy detached by Millimeters ,And pushing it home Solved the Problem.
Hope this Helps You.
David.
