Exactly the same problem for me.

Other thread dealing with this issue says that the same probook model with Intel's core-i3 processor does not have the problem. The problem is only for the i5 and i7 models. This fact is quite interesting.

The main difference between i3 and i5(or i7) is turbo booster. I wonder if there is an option in the bios that allow to turn off the turbo booster. If so, I would test if turning off the turbo can be a solution.

16G ram issue make me v crazy and HP seems to have no any solution!

The HP QUickspecs (Product Bulletin tech specs) for the 4440s and 4540s ( http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#spectype=north_america&type=html&... ) specifically shows support for 2 memory dimms of up to 4gb each for a total of 8gb

Sorry, if you were somewhat misled on this feature

I work for HP. However, all opinions and comments are my own.

Yes the people who sold this loptop to us mention it is supported 16 GB. Is there way to complain about those agent ?

I went through this exact experience.  HP actually released the specs stating that you could infact upgrade to 16 gigs(I have a copy).  I purchased 2 separate kits of ram (I assumed the first kit was DOA).

After hours of phone calls with support and upgrading bios etc, I was informed that HP changed the sped, and that I was looking at an "old" one.  In the new spec, it says max ram supported is 8gigs.  The only thing they offered me was the ability to trade my laptop in (through the standard trade in - which is a third party).

So now, my 3 month old laptop can't do the job I purchased it for, and HP isn't standing by the fact they they published false specs, plus I'm out the shipping for both sets of ram.

It's a shame that HP won't stand by their products and their mistakes - lesson learned, the next time, I'll buy a lenevo.

Hi,  jchubbert.

Could you send me a copy of old spec?
