Loving my new HP Mini 110 - but getting frustrated by the lack of PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys. I figure these exist somewhere, but I've tried the obvious things (Ctrl + up, Alt + down, whatever) and I can't find figure it out. OK, perhaps I'm dumb... or perhaps there really are no PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys! Anyone who can put me right..? Thanks.

Sorry to say, but the BIOS vendor goofed on this one.  All (most?) HP Mini's-- the 210's for sure-- only have what are described as "93%" keyboards, which means the "Home" "End" "Pg/Up" and "Pg/Dn" keys are omitted.

The documentation states that "Fn + UpArrow" is supposed to work the same as "Home" and likewise, "Fn + Down Arrow" should be "End", but they do not work.

The 210-20XX series in particular uses BIOS F.02 (at least that is the BIOS for my 210-2072CL) and it is confirmed that this BIOS does not support the "Fn+Arrow" key functionality.

I've spent hours scouring the internet, various forums, including this one, and I've also spent hours with HP Support personnel, both on the phone and in instant chat, and no one has a fix for this.   No one except forum member Cylclops has any connection with HP here, and if you read the forum rules, this is merely a "user support" forum, and there is no official support provided here by HP.  Cyclops has said in another thread that this issue will be fixed "soon" and that a new BIOS update will be posted "soon".   I'm not so sure about that.  I hope one is posted soon, but it's been at least since August 2010 when the BIOS for the 210-2072CL was first published and certainly, you'd have thought that someone at HP's engineering or quality assurance department would have tested this keyboard combination in the intervening three months.   One thing is for certain, no one at HP has paid attention to this known defect yet as far as we, the consuming public can ascertain.  I'm sure that one of the mods here will view this as a "rant", but honestly it's not, it's just a statement of fact about what you ought to expect from writing on these forums:   We are simply talking to one another, and whether HP is really listening is anyone's guess, and it's best to assume the company is not, at least if one is to believe the "Rules of Participation" posted here at the forums.

You should give the "Shift + Spacebar" and "Fn + Spacebar" keys a try though.   They do seem to work for "Page Up" and "Page Down".

Hey, it's better than nothing;  not quite "Home" and "End" but it will get you there faster than just using the arrow keys, and it's at least something to use until HP posts a BIOS fix.

Wow! Yes, Shift+Spacebar and Fn+Spacebar do work for PgUp and PgDn! Those are combinations I wold NEVER have thought of! Who on Earth came up with that bizarre idea..?!

Thanks a lot, jegesq. At least I've now got two out of the four (and I know not to waste my time looking for the other two).

The CQ10 and 110-3000 series does not have the Home,End, Page Up and Page Down functionality on the keyboard. What you can do is use the attached software to bring that functionality...

To do that...

  • Extract hotkey_ext.exe and hotkey_ext.ahk files to any location you like from the zip file...
  • Double click hotkey_ext.exe to launch it.

This will bring...

  • page-up by left control + up key combo
  • page down by left control + down key combo
  • home by left control + left key combo
  • end by left control + right key combo

Let me know if it helps...

Oh. My. God.

Major kudos, Cyclops. That is exactly what's needed!

Yes, it works. IT WORKS!

Thank you so much.

If it's that easy, why isn't this part of the standard set-up?

Brilliant!

Hi, craig09, jegesq, and Cyclops.  I just unpacked my new Mini 110-3130 netbook, and struggled with this issue.  I just extracted and installed the executable file, and the shortcuts did the job.  Not knowing how it operates, I will just restart the PC, and reply with confirmation that the fix is permanent (at least, while no SW updates are performed).

Thanks a lot for bringing up this issue.

Hi, team

The solution does not appear to be "permanent".  After a PC restart, the solution did not work for me anymore.

For some applications, I noticed that "spacebar" scrolls down similarly to "Page Dn", while "left Shift"+"spacebar" scrolls up similarly to " Page Up".

This is a piece of software that you need to run each time you start up your computer. I have put a shortcut to it on my desktop, so I just need to double-click that, each time my computer starts up, to have these functionalities. I know it's not ideal, but I'm very happy to have this at least!
