I have a Presario V6000 with a Quanta BB30 system board. I would like to upgrade RAM (max) and CPU, if possible. I know some CPUs are soldered in. I would also like to upgrade the hard drive. Does anyone know what the board/system (Vista Home Edition) will support? I am trying to make this notebook accommodate my schoolwork until I can afford what I need. This notebook is OK for day to day activities, but my classes are requiring that I now install a Vista virtual machine (25 GB HD space/512 MB RAM) and a Windows 7 Professional virtual machine (60 GB HD space/512 MB RAM). Any suggestions, other than the obvious which I can't afford until next semester. Thanks in advance, John

John we really need to know the exact model number. The hard drive is not a problem. Any V6000 will take a SATA drive as big as the market sells as long as it is a 9.5 mm thick model. Some of the 1 TB drives are 12 mm and they will not fit. The RAM is another story. Earlier versions of the AMD V6000 (up to model V6499) "officially" max at 2 gigs (but will actually take 3) and then later ones max at 4 gigs. It is DDR2 667 laptop memory but DDR2 800 will work. The CPU is not soldered and can be replaced/upgraded. Here is the Service Manual:
Page 71 lists supported processors. As long as your existing processor is 64 bit compatible I would not bother with the upgrade since the V6000 is the same machine as the Pavilion dv6000 that has video/chipset issues which would be made worse by extra heat.

Thanks for all the great information, and the manual as well. The model number is no more definitive than V6000. The tag and the System Information both have it listed that way. The closest thing I've seen on the HP site is either V6000T cto, or V6000TX cto. Mine has nothing after the 6000. I have a P/N: of RX700AV on the System Information list and RX943AV on the tag. The processor is an Intel Celeron M CPU 520 1.6 GHz. Present memory is 1,024 MB of DIMM (speed/type unknown). Present hard drive is a Toshiba MK 8037GSX ATA 80 GB. Thanks again for all your help,
John
