My wifes HP has the same problem but even with the hard drive in place or after removing the hard drive, still does not get past the "Press the ESC key for Startup Menu" or when hit F10 at the start, doesn't get past "F10 - BIOS Setup options".

I was able to remove the hard drive, put it on another computer and successfully made a backup with Acronis so I know that the disk can be read.  I'm stumped.

Please assist.  Thanks.

Try removing 1 stick of memory & attempt startup. If no joy, switch the sticks and try the other.

Certainly had something to do with it. I removed one and still wouldnt boot then removed the other and put the original back in and worked! Then I put both back in their originaln spots and started working as normal. I have a funny feeling one of them is going bad but now I know exactly where to look next time. Kudos!

Glad to hear you are back up & running.Sometimes just reseating the memory does the trick. If you have the problem again you can also try carefully cleaning the gold contacts of memory stick with a Q-tip  slightly dampened with 91% alcohol.Be sure to allow to dry completely before reinserting, or blow it dry with compressed air.

Hello

I got an HP Pavilion G6-2245SQ and I've installed Windows 7 32bit. I spend a day to find drivers (HP only offers drivers for Windows 8 64bit) .. and after I installed them, after restart... surprise. Dont boot.

Same .. shows "Press ESC key..." and then restarts .. over and over. I can access Bios, Boot menu and all option menus.. but none of them cant repair.

I have installed Windows 8 .. and boots perfectly. I start Windows 8 ... and then select Windows 7.. then restart and start Windows 7.

I wanna uninstall Windows 8 and start Windows 7 without problems. Solutions?

I think the problem is that "UEFI" ... (not familiar with)

Sorry for my bad english.

Press the ESC key for Startup Menu ( Stop here & not start Windows  ) - Resolved

I had a similar problem with my HP Probook 6560b... It was just displaying an HP blue logo and Press the ESC key for Startup Menu.

Resolution:

I plugged the laptop to the mains for some hours to bring it back from hibernation. Following morning, it was able to boot up to Windows7.... Piece of a cake....
