I recently installed a new hard drive into my HP Probook 4710s and installed a new version of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
I am unable to install the audio driver. I have downloaded the ADI SoundMax AD1984A audio driver for Microsoft Windows 7 sp45115.exe.
However, it will not install. The error message I get is "the audio driver does not support your computer hardware"
In Device Manager, the driver is Microsoft High Definition Audio Driver v. 6.1.7600.16385
Under Control Panel - Sound the Playback device is Digital Audio HDMI, High Definition Audio Device, Not plugged in. I am unable to click on configure or set as default
When i place the mouse over the sound icon lower left it says no speakers or headphones are plugged in.

Sorry that didn't work.
I have the HP Eltebook 6930p with the same audio chip.
You will see it listed as one of the notebooks supported by the same audio driver.
I have some questions for you to see if we can get the sound working.
1. When you first installed windows 7 without adding any drivers, did you have audio?
I did when I installed W7. That was the version without SP1. So, I would be somewhat surprised that since your notebook uses the same audio chip as mine, that W7 installed without the audio working.
2. Whether or not you had audio after installing W7, did you install the following drivers in the generally recommended order of installation, and reboot after each individual install of the following drivers?
That order being:
First, -- Intel Chipset Installation Utility
Second, -- Graphics
Third, -- Audio
If you answered no to this question, that could be the cause of the issue.
My recommendation in that case, would be to reinstall W7 and try again using the above approach.

Hi:
Try manually installing the driver and see if that works.
Click on the MS HD audio driver in the device manager.
Click on the driver tab. Click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for software method and browse to the installation folder that was created when you first ran the file.
That will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp45115.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

I have tried to manually update the driver through device manager and update driver software. I select the folder SWSetup\sp45115.
The device manager says that the drive is up to date and does not install a new driver.
Also, when I try to browse my computer for driver software and I select the SWSetup\sp45115 folder, there is an AMD directory and an i386 directory. Device Manager says that same thing, drive is up to date.
When I try "Let me pick from a list of device drivers", It shows three, ATI High Definition Audio Driver, High Definition Audio Device Version 6.1.7600.16.16385, High Definition Audio Device Version 6.1.7601.17514
I have tried the ATI driver, and it doesn't work either.
According to HP quick specs I have an ADI 1984AJCPZ High Definition CODEC

Problem resolved.
The audio device was disable in the system bios.
I pressed escape during bootup to access system bios menu, found the audio drive disable. Enable audio driver, rebooted, and was able to install the 45115 Windows 7 64 bit driver.
After installed the new hard drive I updated system to the latest bios 68PZI F.20. Somehow the audio device got disable while duing that.
