OK, I'll attempt to repro with Ubuntu.

O, I just realized I've never run this on an 8460w, just an 8460p.  Do the BIOS distributions differ between the two?

They are same series with similar BIOS.

I have completed Windows 10 updates and no issue found.

Hi,

Having trawled the Internet for a couple of hours reading various explanations of how to set up dual boot, this one seems to have come to a positive conclusion, but there are so many suggested links and comments that it is hard to tell which ones should be followed and which are superfluous.

I have just (today) bought an HP Pavillion 15-ak085na. I would like to keep the copy of Windows 10 which was pre-installed (there is no CD) so I have something to use if I really want to, but my main OS of choice for work and general use is Ubuntu and has been for many years. The HDD is 2TB so has plenty of space for re-partitioning.

Could I ask if someone could please sanitise the previous 4 pages of comments into one or two links or a description that explains the process of setting up dual booting so it works reliably?

Many thanks in advance

Al

PS - How come a clean instal of Windows is 45GB!!! Ubuntu, with all the applications that come pre installed is only a tenth of that!

You have to shrink the partition in Windows.

Make sure SecureBoot is disable in BIOS otherwise you are not allow to install Linux

ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE CHANGE BIOS OR MODIFYING PARTITION
