Presario CQ57 Product # QE264UA#ABA....... I know I'm probably beating a dead horse, since they're other post asking the same info, but I guess you could call this clarification questions. I'm looking to upgrade my processor which is currently an Intel Celeron Dual Core B800 @ 1.50GHz. First off, from what I've read am I correct in assuming the Intel Core processor will work in the Celeron's place? I'm opting toward the Intel Core i5 2430M 1333MHz processor if application permits. If not, can I use the Intel Pentium B960 2.20GHz TJ85, or are both compatible? Thank you in advance for any replies or any light you may be able to shed on this subject.

Hi
Go through Page 19, 20 in this manual:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02948186.pdf
The processors you listed are also listed in the manual for your model,
But unfortunately, if you want to upgrade to any of then, you've to replace both motherboard & fan/heat sink assembly to a different part listed in the manual.
You can alternatively upgrade current 2gb RAM upto 4gb or even 8gb without any other major disassembly. You may also consider upgrading HDD to SSD in the primary bay as Boot drive to really appreciate the boost in performance, that you would never get, with any of the upgrades listed previously.

Thanks for the prompt reply, unfortunately I'm still confused. I've notice that pretty much all questions get a reply referencing the Service Manual. Pages 19 and 20 have a whole list of 13 processors including the two mentioned in the original question. But no where did I see it mentioned about changing motherboard, heat sink, etc. in the list. When you refer me to the list, i'm thinking these are direct plug and play replacements which they are not. So how do I know which one's on the list are plug and play replacements? The simpliest solution to me would be to give me the part number(s) for the fastest plug and play processor for my application, that would answer my question. Trying to figure this out myself, I'm assuming I need to choose from the list of Celeron Processors and none of the others are plug and play compatible? Remember we ask these questions because we are layman looking for basically a direct answer, so yes you will probably have to spell it out for us. Also you mentioned upgrading HHD to SSD, what part number SSD would I need, and is this procedure outlined in the service manual. Thanks again for your reply.

Hi
This is NOT AN OFFICIAL HP CUSTOMER SUPPORT
This is a peer-to-peer consumer based support forum
None of us helping here are giving you advice or suggestion as a representative of HP, rather we all are helping others to solve their issues related to HP machines as we also own few of them & we like to help
If you want to get official answer from HP, I suggest you contact HP in your region.
We all are layman here.
Now, for your concerns -
It is clearly printed in the pages I have mentioned that Intel core i3/i5, Pentium & Celeron laden motherboards have different part numbers as listed
The fan/heat sink assembly (and their part numbers given against them) also differs according to the processor type. So that means obviously there is some extra cooling to be done as you go to higher processors (motherboard). Consequently, you've to think of changing the fan/heat sink assembly too.
The Intel Celeron B800 is the TOP PROCESSOR for your motherboard. No higher processor for the board listed compatible. We cannot predict anything outside this MANUAL as you can see HP has not tested anything other than those listed in your model.
So kindly bear with me in this.
Regarding SSD,
Here is the SSD white paper from your product site -
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02435719
Upgrading to SSD is purely your choice. Your laptop had a 2.5" SATA HDD & as far as I know , any good 2.5" SATA 7mm thick, SSD available in the market now should work smoothly. You'll not need anything extra than the SSD. Hard drive cable and caddy of the HDD would hold the SSD too . You can put it in the primary bay as Boot drive. I suggest you may clone/migrate the current HDD to SSD by using the either the migration tool made available by the SSD manufacturer itself or other 3rd party free software like Macrium reflect free & SATA to USB adapter for connecting the SSD to PC.
For your information, there is a very good Sticky thread made by HP Expert Erico in one of the sections in this forum - you can go through that.
If you've any more doubts, let me know. I'll try my best to sort it out.
If you want to get official response, I think nobody here have that power now - you may contact HP customer care:

My apologies Visruth. I was under the assumption that the support content was provided by HP Support Techs. Your explanation explains why you could not provide the exact information needed. Thanks again for your prompt reply and your input. Again, my apologies.
